Title: Air Bag !  Present ?
Post by: duggs on 30 June 2007, 23:03:47
Is there a way to find out if the drivers air bag is, in fact, still where it should be. ?

Reason being that I think my newly acquired Omega has been involved in an accident sometime, spured on by the
fact that she's clearly had a bit of front respray at some time or the other.

The steering wheel centre just seems a bit.....ermm hollow I guess you could say. Its fairly easy to push the centre in about 15mm whereas my Vectra's is as solid as a rock. Is it possible that after the bag had gone off, they could have put it back together without a replacement bag and if so, where is the best/cheapest place to get it replaced please.

Is there airbag light on? And if it isn't, does it come-on when the ignition is switched on?

As you can guess I am trying to make sure that the airbag has not simply been removed from the instrument panel.

Having said that, even if the bulb is present and comes-on briefly with ignition as it should, it is not conclusive - they may be a way to short-circuit the system to think the airbag is still there, I don't know...

The drivers side airbag is a bit squishy, when it goes off it tears the wheel insert (which is a sealed item) so its not realy possible to fix.

As the passenger side one, its a glove box out job.......is the airbag light lit and does it come on then go off with the ignition...

The ECu will report a fault if one is not fitted unless somebody has been creative with resitors
