4am this morning, I get awoken by the sound of my alarm going off on my car, now I don't leg it down to the car as you would expect, because at the moment am suffering with a bad groin strain, but I peer out the window, everything looks OK and sure enough it stops on it's own.
On my way out later that morning I had a quick check around the car and all seems OK again, right off to the the Physio Terrorist.
Come to start the car later and firstly the key fob won't unlock the car, and then when i use the key to unlock the car, the immobiliser won't let me start the car.

Is it the IR type remote? If so, you need to point remote at dome by sunroof and press (normally part of unlocking procedure). Seeing as you couldn't unlock, I would suspect batteries flat in remote ;)

Is it possible that something flattened the car battery?
I had a similar issue with a non-omega with IR remote and immobiliser once. Heated rear window relay contacts welded shut, battery gave up about 3AM at which point the Police phoned me and asked if I knew my car alarm was going off (bedroom at back of house ;) ). At this point the key would not unlock the car, the alarm was running on its' internal battery and wouldn't stop whatever I did with the key and the most useful thing I could do was to moisten a towel and place it over the scuttle vents!

Red light flashes on fob when i press the button, just doesn't seem to get picked up by the dome sensor., batter was changed in the remote a few months ago, so I would not expect it to be that

do you have another key/fob to try?
-
Er Yes & No, yes I have one, but no cos the I/R has never worked on that Key, kept meaning to get it sorted :-/
Does the main interior light work from the same fuse as the dome sensor for the keyfob?
I noticed my main interior light isn't working but the two map lights work fine.

Haven't got early wiring diagrams to hand to check at moment...

found this http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-61874.html
which seems to indicate that Courtesy lamp, seat heating, central locking, rear window blind are all on fuse 20
(apologies for linking to an inferior forum ;) )

Not sure if the IR runs from Fuse20, but check it and if blown, replace :y
