Title: heater matrix
Post by: paul666 on 07 July 2007, 20:39:20
:'( Does anybody out there know how to get the heater matrix out of an elite without taking out all the bloody dash + how much are they. I'm 2 days into ownership after dumping my cossie started servicing it and whooppee go to the right bank of plugs and notice some little so and so has by passed the heater matrix. On stuffing my head up the right side of the dash I notice an old coolant stain on the carpet - now I know why they sold it don't I - I did 300,000 miles in my senator and she never missed a beat, 2 days in and I've got my first big job on this one.

Hi..had similar issues with my last 1998 cdx..the heater matrix leaked and filled the car with steam and then the sweet smell of anti freeze..i enquired about costs and the matrix was about £100 but the labour involved was horrendous as ..yes..you have to remove most of the dash etc and potential cost were £500/£600 labour..so as she had over 200k i bypassed the heater..only trouble was it was last winter so very difficult to clear screen etc..don,t wish to add  to your troubles but it is a nasty job, which i never did as i scraped car..you could try rad weld etc but that does tend to create other issues with coolant..not sure if that helps but it is the truth

If its first time for you I recommend either you take help from someone experienced or you have enough schema and drawings..There are too many nuts, bolts, screws hidden..One example is behind the dash is one air pipe.
And unless you take the pipe outside you will nut see and break the plastic connections. Most screws are hidden inside the ventilation holes..Also you need to take steering wheel outside..The console surrounding the hand brake and gear also must be taken outside etc etc.

PS: Even in the service they do it together 2 persons..

Does anyone remember "BASSV6?" - he deals in Omega's on eBay.

Not sure how true this is, but he once told me that he's found a dead easy way of changing the matrix - simply by breaking off a totally inconspicuious bit of trim under the dash.

Bit of a cowboy method, and not one I've tried... but thought it may be worth a mention..

I'll have to have a go at doing this job by the book... I've not done it yet...

If you've had it 2 days - surely you can take it back?
