Title: RIGHT I HAVE HAD IT BL**DY SICK
Post by: Craig_R on 09 July 2007, 19:44:44
I am Totaly Feed Up with this Damn Car.

All I want is for it to be smooth with no knocking but that would be asking Far to much  :(

After Replacing the Top Mounts Oh guess What STILL GOT A KNOCK when at stand still moving the steering wheel back and forth KNOCK KNOCK BL**DY KNOCK so back under the Car with the Girl Freind moving the Stering Wheel I can Feel the knock Big Time But Cant track it down.

And Bl**dy Awful Vibration at any speed

I Guess its the Steering Box as James Said or The Steering Column.

While under the car AGAIN i saw the there was a bolt missing Wonder if the knock could be from here but i doubt it nothing is that easy ill fit a nut tomorrow as i am sick as a pig tonight.

Looks LIKE MORE MONEY getting chucked at this DAMN car BUT this is it if i get the Steering Box and Steering Column replace by a Garage and it gives me any more trouble I will Scrap the Bl**dy thing as getting the Steering Box and Column replace by a garage is going to cost ALOT

A Very UnHappy Craig  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Sorry to hear about your wows Craig, I can sympathize with your frustration as you have done a lot work to try and sort out this prob, I have tried to look for your original post to get a grasp of what is going on with your car.  I can only use one arm and most jobs take a long time and as a result have often felt like putting a match to it to say the least. But when you get it sorted, that grin will be back on your face, and all will be forgot, (is that a bit over the top) especially as your car is a 2000 lpg . what do you get to the gallon.
Sorry not to be of help, just wanted to give some encouragement.
Good Luck.

That looks a very likely candidate.....an doesn't look there has been a nut on there for some time.

Without giving too much hope i would be optimistic as well. Lets face it theres meant to be a bolt on there for a reason and if its notbolted there will be play ( resulting in your vibration) Remember also that a serious wobble and knocking can be something as simple as loose wheel nuts...

Different scenario - but hopefully shows its possible  :y

.. since before the last MOT I'd say  :o

Probably not a failure but I would have expected an advisory if the steering box is in the process of unscrewing itself.

Let's hope that turns out to be it.

Craig,

I have replied to your PM mate.

Looking at that pic... I would say get a nut on there before you even think about what else could be causing it. Silly little things like that, can cause a whole host of symptoms... and you usually only find these little things are at fault, after doing all the major work first without needing too!!!

Thanks Everyone I have Calmed Down Alittle to say the least.

Oh My Girl Freind is now saying Just Get Rid Of that Damn Car and To Be honest I can see where she is coming from. But I know once this steering Problem is sorted it will be nice and smooth with no Vibration. Its just getting there Grrrr

Ill get a Nut on that Thread Tonight To see if it help but i am not going to hold my breath as I had my hand around the bottom part of the Steering Box when I was trying to feel for the knock and i did not think i felt and movment from the Steering Box. It quite hard to track as i can feel the knock all through the trackrods (which are brand new) the Steering Idler, The Middle Bar, and the thing that attaches to the steering Box that looks like a steering idler thats in the photo.

First thing Tonight Nut On and go from there

I assume the wisbone and ball joint bolts are all to torque?

Thanks Lyn Kinds Words :) But we will see

I hope the WishBones are But I never Fit them As My hands were bad when they were put on but you never know The Guy Who Fit Them My GF Brother has 3 Torque wrenches but i have never seen him use one strangely.

Ball Joint Bolts I am guessing you mean Track Rods ? I never had a Torque wrench to do those but they should be tight enough.

I was Worried about getting the lenths of the trackrod ends right but even if there are miles out in lenth there should still be no knock from them.

No, I mean ball joint, at the base of the hub, part of the wishbone....

Do check the wishbone bolts are tight though.

Hi there Craig, Just thinking. Did your GF's boyfriend tighten up the bones with the car on the floor because if he torqued them up with the car jacked up (wheels off the floor) the rubber mounts will twist when the front is let back down and could cause damage to the mounts.
Just a thought
Lyn.

LOL my GF's boyfriend that would be me :)

Right Calling omega owners again sorry time to check something on your cars

The missing nut i have photographed i dont think is so missing as its not ment to have a nut on it or its a damn skinny nut.

The othe two nuts shown are 16mm and i cant get a 16mm nut on the thread is right but the nut is to fat, the bolt thread is far to close to that part of the steering box to get a nut on to it I am thinking the bolt gos through it and that part of the steering box must be threaded can some have a crawl under their car and see if they have a nut. I dont know if the V6 engines have different Steering boxes to the 4 pots.

So i am think its not a missing nut and Yet again I am back to sqaure one or its one skinny nut that gos on there which in my mind would be a bad design

Hi Craig,

Looking at your picture, IMHO there is no way you could hope to get a nut on that bolt, not enough room !  I would think that that part of the bracket is threaded, just a thought.

Ians its on the drivers side its right where the inner track rod attaches it has an arm that looks like the steering idler but normaly has a black plastic cap over the bolt you cant miss it big metal thing that attaches the steering to the trackrods and so forth

Thanks Mate :)

Roland I think your right there is no chance of getting a nut on that bolt
