Cam sensor failure only happens on the 4 pots.....yet to see one on the V6 (although I have seen some heavy handed people damage them!)

mine seems pretty reliable,in four years changed alternator £80,cam sensor, cleaned icv and breathers, brakes all renewed, hand brake cable, back subframe mount bushes, rear coil springs, front wishbones, front drop links, track rod ends, only big thing to go was timming belt cost me £380 to have repaired, water pump snapped belt, but engine has been mechincally sound for past four years, also to add ,did timming belt and tensioners last year again better  to be safe now than sorry :y :y :y

Its actualy the wiring and connector that were modified.....hence why it comes with an extra bit of loom.

Post by: holey head on 06 July 2007, 15:49:33
what difference does the modified sensor make?
Title: Re: cam sensor
Post by: x25xe on 06 July 2007, 16:41:45
less prone to failure (hopefully!)

Cam sensor failures are unheard of on v6 models.  However, 4 pot owners will suffer one at some point.

The modification is the wiring to stops spikes - the sensor is still equally prone to failure.

camshaft faults, never. cam sensor faults, common on 4 pots, rare on v6

So far mine has been changed twice in the past year or so, the first sensor failed after 6months so it was replaced again under warranty which was a bonus, its been fine since. :y

On the Vectras i've had (with X20XEV's) the Cam sensor used to fail at about every 40K.... don't know what was significant about that mileage but it was an easy job to replace.
