I had my wishbones replaced 2/3 months ago now and when washing the car tonight noticed wear on the outside shoulders of the tyres.
Passenger front is the worst, drivers not so bad and passenger rear also a little worn. Tyres have done 10k or so and 4 way tracking adjusted after the bones were done.
Pic's a bit fuzzy due to flash :-[(http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o317/chopsdad/IMG_1706.jpg)

Is this a sign the wishbones are not up to scratch? or just normal wear and tear?

It's down to your geometry.
I had this so often with my old Omega it nearly drove me to distraction. It ate tyres on the front (inside edge or outside edge) and every time I got a new tyre they would "re-track" the car and the same would happen again. It was only when I went to see Tony (WIM) that he cured the problem 100%. From what he was saying (IIRC), the published settings they use in these places is for the original factory fitted suspension setup. Due to the nature of the suspension on the Omega, after a few short years, these settings become pretty much worthless as they do not take into account the wear and settle of the geometry. Effectively, although they are setting the car up "correctly" according to the book, they are in fact almost setting up incorrectly. You need to take a run to Hemel!
Tony, if you read this, I hope that was a reasonably fair assessment of what you told me.

Yep, my Omega was spot-on but eating tyres on inside wall driver's side, new tyres and a visit to Tony and 20k later the wear is still even.

You did real good :y Chopsdad, the wear on the tyre is lateral hence the feathered leading edge appearance on the tyre. By all accounts the toe is incorrect. To far positive in your case. The fact the NSF is suffering more than the OSF is normal here in the UK.

Tony, from what I can see of the manufacturers specs, they seem to be very wide on the max min allowances and max deviation.
Are there any narrower guide values that you use for initial setup that can be supplied to our local geometry people for setup purposes?

Also have the camber checked as well as the tracking ;)
