Title: What does your 2.5v6 do to a full tank.....
Post by: nen3906 on 16 July 2007, 18:47:50
Hi Guys
I have a 2.5v6 elite est (auto) and on a full tank I just get about 350 miles......is this about normal ?  What do you get from a full tank ?  Also with the engine running there seems to be a hiss from the rear top of the engine......any ideas on where this may be coming from ?
Sorry to cram in the questions........ ;D

I get the same from my 3.0l MV6.

The hiss will either be an air leak, or a vacuum leak. Locate, and repair ;)

What sort of mileage is this?  Round town?  Mixed?  Motorway?

Get a short length of garden hose or heater hose. Hold one end over your ear and run the other end over the pipes at the rear of the engine. I think you'll hear when you pass the leaky pipe. Prime candidates would be the brake servo pipe which leads from the passenger side of the plenum round to the brake servo under the brake fluid reservoir, the small vacuum pipes which lead from this to the multiram, heater and EGR / SAI actuators and the breathers which run from the rear of the plastic plenum cover to the driver's side rear of the engine.

350 to a tank! you ARE driving well, I'm thrilled if I get 300, they are not built for economy.

I get about 360mpg, only when the light start flashing.  My driving is stop and go through towns for 40 a day then messing on the highway about 70mph-???90??? ;) and get the lower end of 300ish, thats on and off with S-mode. Never have on T/C.

:)Went down south last Xmas and got 600mls from £80 fuel, (topped up down there) but on Lakes meet got about 400mls with a tad more left, although was pi**ing off bmw's mercs, hot hatches & whoever wanted to play..... well yuo ca'nt back down can you?
To be honest i do'nt think the induction kit helps but i like the noise!
However re-set the mpg before i left and it showed 35.2 when i got home. When i get the MV6 i'll give up!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

My long term average is about 32mpg (mixed driving).  Range is usually around 450 day to day up to > 500 on a steady run. (2.5 manual)

Miles per tank sounds about right with me too.I drive between 130/180 miles every day of the week including weekends. So as not to get too depressed I have started only putting in £20=00 a day as full tank costs nearer £50=00..whilst it is only a mind thing I do put fuel in everyday ..7 days a week..so 300/350 a tank is about correct with my calculating..my mileage is mostly Motorway at 70/80 with mixture of London bumper to bumper and this time of year A/C on all time..nobody buys an Omega to do economical travel..just that I have driven them for over 350,000 miles and enjoy them not to worry about the fuel..though perhaps I should..but that is another story...can also remember when you got a gallon of fuel for £1=00..showing my age now

Ive actually put it to the test in my 2.5v6 manual. Out of a full tank if i drive it like a grandad (changing gear at 2k max) , i get 400 miles to a tank. If i drive like a complete twit i get just under 200 miles.

Whichever i do , its crap mpg if we are honest.

Daily commute is Reading - Bracknell.

Lucky if I get 275 on this urban stop-start....pure motorway brings it way above 300....

Back and forth to work I get 28mpg (lots of stop/start and traffic ques).

On a motorway trip I get about 35-38mpg (dependent on speed).

I have seen 500 miles from a tank before but, usualy get about 400

How Much Is it to fill a tank at todays petrol prices ?

I know mine is missing 2 pots and runs on LPG but at 7 pence a mile on a long run if its £60 to fill an omega tank ill get something about 860 miles to 60 quid I think ill stick to LPG

Totally agree with calculations at 16 per mile..doesn,t sound that horrible at that figure but then ...5 miles per litre at 90p then 25 miles at 5 litres..starts to get nasty as I do between 150/180 miles a day..so that is nearer £30=00 a day..think I will stop that calculation and have a drink to steady nerves..who started this anyway ??

currently 20p/mile at 96.9p/litre

Have a bad back to thank for avoiding a 190mile round trip commute. 5 days a week that would have been approx 45,600 miles or £9,120.00 for the year contract. :-/

You should be converting to LPG with miles like that in a year if you did do it you would save just under £6000

I worked out the cost for me to do those miles and it was £3192 big saving on £9120.

The reason I went for LPG was because the job i had when i got the car was an 800 mile a week drive to work and back and i worked the savings out to be on LPG about £3800 a year over petrol and that was just for the commute not anyother driving

What sort of cost to convert and is there any loss of performance?

Off the top of my head about 800 DIY and 2000 by a garage. with the newer systems not really much loss Martin Is The LPG man he does DIY converstions on his cars.

I bought my 2000 w reg Megga with LPG 62k on the clock for 2,500 but my LPG system is an old Mixer Type not an injector type like the newer systems

SGI kits are around 4 £600 - £700 6 £700 - £800

You then need to fit.

Professional fitting you are looking at £1500 - £1600 for a 4, £1600-£1800 for a 6

Making room for the evaporator is the difficult bit

I've done about 320miles to 3/4 a tank before now, Liverpool -> Macclesfield -> Amesbury -> London

Average speed was about 80mph, got caught in a few traffic snarlups too, and also a slight detour for a quick rest stop.

I had a round trip journey to London (400 miles)last weekend and managed to get about 35 mpg still had about 15 litres left in the tank. Around town usually get about 25 mpg.
