Title: Radio not working and engine bottom end noise??
Post by: Redtop180 on 15 July 2007, 12:23:29
Hi guys, im from northern ireland and am new to this game, so please be patient!! lol

Just bought a 1999 omega 2.5v6 and the radio is not working at all it wont even turn on, just wondering if there is maybe a fuse in behind the radio or a relay or something in the engine compartment that i am missing?? I also have no keys to remove the radio so any ideas here would be good too :-? :-??

Also, i have noticed the bottom end seems quite 'ticky'/noisey, but not really a thumping sound, should i be worried or can these engines be noisey sometimes? i remember my last 2.5v6 had the same noise at the bottom end and i sold it on to a guy who as far as i knoe had no probs with the engine!! oil pressure and all is ok. Thanks guys, hope to become a regular here....

Welcome.

If its a factory fit radio, blade fuse in back of radio :)

Ticking noises tend not to be bottle end.  If it sounds like it tappety, could be exhaust manifold (or its gasket), esp if it quietens down when it warms up...

Thanks matey, ur rite it was the fuse in the radio that was blown so got it working!! ;D

As for the bottom end noise its defo not as high up as the cams and it doesn't appear to be the manifold gasket from what i can hear, its def comming from the bottom end cuz i can hear it if i listen at the sump. Is this just a harmless noise that happens with some omegas or have i a timebomb waiting to cost me a fortune???? Cheers matey, uz are all a great help!! :)

P.S I hear fitting 3litre cams and a chip makes a real difference to the 2.5's, is it worth doing and where could i get a set of 3 litre cams??  :-?

im pretty sure the two issues are not related  ;D

Good the radio isworking. Tick or rattle wont be bottom end as thats more likely to be deeper and clunkier....

thanks lads, still not convinced about this noise tho :-?

its quite loud but isnt really a thumping noise, and if i stand outside the car with the engine running i can hear it no probs ticking away..if i didnt know any better id say it was like a loud timing chain noise (although i know these engines have a belt lol). its like a metal noise gurgling through oil with the occasional click click click noise, but its def loud enough, and isa defo comming from the bottom end...............help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :-? ''

cheers lads, just wanna make sure!!

Bit of a long shot, but could it be from the aircon compressor? Have you noticed a difference with it switched on or off? When my compressor started paying up it sounded so awful I drove home at 20 mph thinking it was something much worse!!
