Post by: DESIMUS on 22 July 2007, 22:04:50
Hi all i am having trouble with the auto box on my 99 3ltr mv6 in the morning its starting off in a lower gear if i change manually its very sluggish at first but its ok after a while. i have already changed the gear oil and altho that did help its still sluggish in the morning.  when changing the oil i found what looked like a washer it was in bits in the oil pan anyone give me an idea what this could be and what to do next? thankx :)

Holding the gearbox in 1st gear from cold is normal behaviour - this is to heat up the cats quicker, hence reducing emissions and saving the planet.

However it would appear your gearbox has dropped a thrust washer, just like my Elite did. Seen this a lot recently.

This means your gearbox is likely to fail very soon, you need a replacement gearbox, or a rebuild of the original one. It WILL let you down.

Sorry mate.

That'll be the thrust washer. That box may not last too much longer.....
