Hi guys,
My 97R Omega 2.5v6 estate is getting a donor engine as the head gasket has blown on the original and the cost quoted was horrible...!
Anyhow I am replacing the unit which I have has 172K on the clock with one that the breaker says has recorded 58k on it...!! sounds a little bit low on the mileage to believe but I have to go with it i suppose.
On delivery the engine has oil in the plug wells......does it sound suspicious for an engine with ONLY 58K on it ???
I am swapping out my new bits and bobs like the oil cooler, thermostat, Alternator which were fitted to my unit only 6 months ago. And I am going to fit a clutch also as well as new rocker seals. (My breather box is being fitted to it too which i cleaned only 12 months ago).
I asked the guy who is doing the job if its going well and he said the Flywheel has a different fixing hole location on first inspection, as the hole pattern didnt seem to locate correctly...!!
He showed me a spacer ring which came with the new engine which didnt have the flywheel with it anyhow. Yet my flywheel came off and there was not spacer ring on it, it just fastened to the shaft directly.
Did the new engine have auto gearbox do you think? will it fit ok?
After I looked at this spacer ring and tried it on my old engine after carefully rotating it on my hole pattern one hole at a time i eventually found a hole configuration that seemed to line up correctly, does this sound ok ....?......should my flywheel locate on the new engine?
By the way the new engine is off a S Reg apparently..!!
A little bit of experienced advice needed please??

Sounds like the donor is off an auto, no problem but it will need a spiggot bearing inserting iunto the nose of the crank.
Also, whilst its off......replace the exhaust manifold gaskets (use Genuine metal plate ones only).
Soudns like the cam cover gaskets are leaking, worth changing.

Hi welcome to the forum, Are you 100% the head gasket has gone as this is
quite rare, it is normally the oil cooler that packs up, do you have oil in the header tank?

Deffo head gasket mate....Ive done the oil cooler change about 10k miles ago anyhow......the water was draining straight through one of the pots this time and chucking it out as steam throught the exhaust......smelled more like the flying scotsman than a car at the exhaust...!
Also boiling up really fast and misfiring badly....!

That amount of steam through the CATS may not have done them any good either.
I agree with Mark, spigot bearing. I have the opposite problem,. getting another one out to put a torque convertor in! LOL.
By the way, I would definitely change the cambelt and tensioners + water pump at the same time. PITA but less of a pain than getting all that work done only to have the tensioners fail.
I bet mine is done first! ;D
