If the battery has just been run flat, has not remained flat for a long period and is otherwise in good condition it should recover and the best advice would be to put it on a charger at a low rate (a couple of amps) and charge until the terminal voltage of the battery is up to around 14 volts. That would probably take 24 hours or so for a totally flat battery.

Charging it on a car is less ideal because it'll be charged at a much higher rate by the alternator however, sometimes needs must and if you've jump started it I would aim to go for a drive for at least an hour, avoiding stopping the engine and running too many electrical accessories.

If the battery has been discharged for or over a long period or is getting old anyway it may not recover. It might be worth checking the alternator output if there is not an obvious reason for the battery going flat.

OK. I'd charge it until the light comes on then. At 6 amps it will take maybe 10-12 hours from totally flat. I wouldn't charge it any longer than that at a 6 amp rate.
