Title: What could it be?
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 29 July 2007, 21:38:58
I was driving up to a big roundabout, on the way out of it i put my foot down a bit, car changed down two gears but then straight away the car changed gear and the revs dropped..... so went down the Runway that is close ;) and opened her up abit..... from sixty it dropped two gears then launched off, at 110 it changed into fourth the rev counter read 4000rpm then the car didn't seem to want to accelerate, i then had to slow down...
I wondered if the kickdown wasn't set up properly, how do you set it up so I can check??

Cheers Guys :y

Sounds like it's needs a TechII.

So do you think it sounds like the Kickdown or something else? Or are you saying the Tech 2 will be able to tell the problem? :-?

Is the car changing up too early or is it just that there's a bit of a flat spot around 4,000 RPM?

If it's revving to or near the redline before changing up I think the gearbox is behaving but maybe it has a multiram problem that's making it a bit flat   in the middle of the rev range.

The 3.0l does get gutless when it changes up to 4th, which should be around 130mph. Apparently ::)

If you changed up to 4th at 110mph, then its not redlining, so either running older firmware or doesn't think you are flat to floor...

It revs straight up to just under the redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd with no flat spots.. surges at 4000rpm... but in four it doesn't... maybe its me and my arse collapsed ;D I just felt asthough there was a restrictor at 110 if that makes any sense :-?

I wondered that, which made me think the kickdown was wrong.... what else could it be if the car doesn't think my foot is to the floor?
But saying that in all other gears it will change just before the redline :-?

If that was the case, it would be doing 130mph if it was redlining in 3rd...

Is this what the Tech 2 sorts out then? Is it the gearbox update or something else?

I will have to try it again then as you have got me thinking did it or didn't it nearly redline in 3rd?

For certain it does in 1st and 2nd have to check

Approx Redlines on 3.0l with AR35, std diff
1st - 45mph
2nd - 85mph
3rd - 130mph
4th - Never got there  :-[

Did you have it in sport mode or not?

Just thinking I think mine short shifts from 3 to 4  even when floored if not in sport mode. Will have to hire that test track again and try it. When it has a working crank sensor ::)

It's a hell of a step in gear ratios between 3 and 4 too. 4th is a tall gear hence the gutlessness. Then again, there aren't many cars that aren't a little gutless the wrong side of 130  :o

Gearbox update is well worth doing if you haven't had it yet.  :y

No Kev don't bother with the Sport Button never thought there is any need... cant be much wrong I reckon it must be in need of the gearbox upgrade ::)

I must not have put my foot stright down  ::)

Came down the M6 doing about 70, planted my foot to the floor, she dropped two gears, like you said TB at 85 mph changed into third then i saw 120mph and still pulling in third then my arse collapsed and let my foot off ;D  So nothing wrong with the car! just something wrong with me ::) ;D
