Title: Mirror door switch - fault?
Post by: unicus on 30 July 2007, 16:30:38
I've just bought an Omega 2.5 V6 auto '98 and it's got a few little faults, I hope someone can help with some info (BTW I've searched and this is a Q I can't find an answer to).

This is the second Omega I've owned and both have the same fault, the mirror will only adjust left and right but not up and down. I didn't bother fixing it with the last one but it's annoying now. Is this a common problem with the switch (if it is the switch?) and can it be fixed or is a new switch the order of the day?

Thanks in advance.

Does the lack of vertical adjustment apply to both passnger and drivers mirror, if so then suspect the switch.

Sounds like replacement from a scrappy or someone on here under 'Parts for sale' is probably your best bet.

Strange that you've had the same fault on 2 cars - its not one I remember coming up before.  Sorry to ask but you're sure its not user error..?

not a faulty i've seen, but switch likely if both mirrors, or servos if just one...

The problem is on both mirrors, that's why I suspected the switch as well. It is strange that I've only had 2 Omega's and both with the same fault, my bad luck. I suppose I'll have to take the switch out - it's not hard is it?

All fixed now, the fault was the three contacts for the rocker in the switch were dirty. I took a quick camera phone pic but it was getting dark last night and it's all out of focus. The three green splodges are the copper contacts - it's a wonder it worked at all. All I had to do was clean these contacts and it's working like new  :)

Note: If you need to repair this switch there are three loose cone shaped contacts that sit in there so be careful when opening it up, you don't want to lose them.
