Title: Heating / Aircon
Post by: GT2200 on 28 July 2007, 08:45:49
I have a 2000 x plate 2.6 V6 CD and although the aircon blows ice-cold I can not get any sort of heat into the car. With the rubbish summer to date it's quite uncomfortable to have no heating!

Any ideas?

Also an aside but link to being warm, the heated seats don't appear to be working either?

Try:
Reset the climate unit
Check HBV working

Seats, check fuse

ok.....'yes' I know how to change a fuse and in a moment of stupidity I put this question in.

BUT.....how do I reset Climate and what and how do I check the HBV?

Hold down the auto and off buttons together for 5 seconds IIRC. You should hear the servos moving for a few seconds afterwards.

Regarding HBV, the pipes to the heater matrix run through the driver's footwell so remove the trim panel above the driver's feet and see if they're getting hot. They should get hot if the climate is set to heat and be cold if the climate is set to "lo" with aircon running. Best to check the latter from a cold start as they will take a long time to cool off if they have been running hot.

Reset aircon.

With regards to HBV, do you actually mean to lift the drivers-side carpet, or somewhere else?

Is the HBV the valve that's near the rad / water bottle, just underneath with two pipes running towards the bulkhead?

HBV is behing the drive's side cylinder head. What you're referring to is the auxiliary coolant pump which is used to extract heat from the engine for heating the cabin when the car is parked. However, that pump is in the circuit controller by the HBV so it should be sufficient to feel the temperature of this pipe. If it gets hot when the climate is set to "lo", or remains cold when the temperature is turned up to call for heat, something's wrong.

Have checked the pipe work on this 'auv' pump and when the cars up to temp it just runs hot all the time.

Something makes me think if the HBV is behind the head it's going to be an aweful job to change it??????

Apparently it's an awkward job but not too bad if you remove the scuttle panel. They're a common failure so plenty of advice available here.

However, if the pipes are getting hot so is your heater matrix, so I'd be inclined to think it's a problem with the actuation of the flaps that divert air through it.

Not sure how to check them but I'm sure someone will be able to help.

HBV is shown here (thanks Ronnie)

I believe that if the vacuum pipe (elbow shaped connector) on top is disconnected/broken (or similar at the other end where it goes into the cabin), the heater won't blow hot.   You should be able to see /feel for the vac pipe even though access to the HBV is a bastard without some disassembly.
