Guys,
I have the following quick question: the light with the car and spanner should it go out after a few secs if the ignition is on or it sould only go out after the engine starts cause I remember mine used to go out after a few secs I switched the ingition on and now it remains on until I start the engine. If it is not normal what does it mean?
Thanks for the answers,
mbraz

I Think our does go out with just ignition, but it's not something we do often so would have to check tonight.
If you are worried, I would read the codes and see if there is anything stored,
as yours is a 2.2, no paperclip tricks, so generic OBD reader, cheapo tech2, or dealer equipment to check i'm afraid.

Back on the code readers.....
Just noticed your location is Hungary, and as the cheapo tech2 software is mostly hungarian, you are in a better position than most of us!
-
Thanks Jimbob,
I am not worried at all, because my car running fine and no lights after I start the engine. In addition I was not sure that it indicates a problem or it is normal.
-
I'll check and let you know tonight.
-
FYI, manual says
"Control Indicator lights up for a few seconds when Ignition switched on'
So sounds like it should go off, without starting the engine
-
Thanks again, then I definitely have to get it checked with Tech 2 :( There must be some bloody code stored somehow. The only thing which I do not understand that why does it go out after the engine started...
-
I'm pretty sure mine only goes out after the engine has started. If a code were stored it would remain lit while driving, although it depends on the code. My faulty crank sensor stored a code but didn't light the light.
Does anything give you a reason to believe there is a problem? If not, I'd say it's normal and don't worry about it.
If you do want to have a look for codes, cheapo tech 2 software should be a doodle. You don't do Hungarian to English translations, I suppose? ;)

Cheers Kevin,
The only thing is that earlier I had an astra where it definitely went out after a few secs and I remember that it used to go out on the omega as well. But if you say it does not mean anything than I will ignore it. Can't it be some kind of service interval indication? Or such thing does not exist on omegas?
-
Nope, no service indicator on meega's
IF you think it had changed, I would check for codes if it is not to difficult to do so.
maybe a pending code or something cropping up, not bad enough yet, but one day...
May just give you a head start.

Just checked, with just ignition on, I have
Handbrake
Battery
Oil
Exhaust Emission (pic of engine) lights on
Engine Electrics etc (car with spanner through roof) goes off after a few seconds.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,
That's what I thought. Mine used to do this.... I need to get it code read. :(

Mmm. Will have to double check mine. Maybe it is trying to tell me something? It may still have a code in from a faulty crank sensor....

It is pretty strange, cause I would think if there is a code it would indicate it when the engine is running as well not only when the ignition is on. But who knows these omegas??? :o
-
Is it possible that it is indicating something not engine related code, such as immobilizer or C/L cause my C/L has not been operating perfectly in the recent days?
-
I think it's supposed to flash if the immobiliser is active...
