hello every one
my omiga has been miss firing and often cutting out while travelling on motorway at 65 :y-80mph and it actually does miss fire in nutral if the engine revs go above 4000. some one told me this is caused by a faulty cam sensor which is getting the firing order wrong.does this sound right?and how long would it take to change it?

First thing to do is read the fault codes, this is easy to do with the help of a paper clip (search the site for details)
A 4000rpm rev limit sudgests limp mode and this is often attributable to the cam sensor which is easy enough to change (and fairly cheap to) but, read the codes to confirm first.
A miss during idling is unlikely to be the same fault though so check plug wells for oil, inlet for leaks adn clean the breathers and throttle body.

too late! i should have read about the paper clip test first.i just parted with a £20 note cash in hand jobbie for an auto electrician to spend less than 5 minutes of his time plugging in his box to confirm it is the cam sensor.he now wants me to buy the part and he'll fit it for £50.does that sound good?

No....the part is cheap enough but, fitting takes about 15 mins and is easy to do.

Thanks for the quick reply.he told me he has to take some things off in front of the engine and then solder it he even asked me to leave the car there for half a day or so.is the job simple enough for a no hoper of a novice like me who doesn't do any thing other than changing hoses plugs simple stuff etc. and if so is there instructions somewhere on the site?thanks.

hi there i've changed cam sensor on my car about 3 times make sure you get the genuine gm part! with modded wiring. to change sensor remove the top cover that says ecotec on. then remove the aux drive belt and the black cam belt cover then remove the sensor by the 1 torx bolt holding it in place, and replace with new one. then do reverse of above. once you have done that you'll need to cut into the wiring for old sensor.and redo the wiring like for like. will take bout an hour to do properly, and a decent job.

I changed the sensor on my previous 2.0L with a Halfords £12 socket set in about 30mins. Its fairly easy, not difficult. OK, there appears to be some wiring mods to do, but it should be documented here. Just think at £50 for the job, your electrician is earning £100 per hour. :-X :-X

I know I go through Norhthampton once a year on the way to Cambridge folk festival but thanks any way.Wife comes from north manchester and we do make trips up there to visit family any body up that way?

cheers guys job done and it runs much better now.ended up paying £16 for the part from vauxhall spares centre off the net and another £20 to have it put in.I am HAPPY and so is my Omega! ;D ;D
