Hi there really love the site! ;)
My dad is going threw a bit of a rough patch and hes just brought a solid omega cdx i think. Its a 2.5 litre V6. The engine Managment Light Is On!
There are a few issues outstanding i wonder if people could shed some light..
1) The engine has trouble starting will turn over for a while before firing. Seems better when warm! Crack Sensor? It also seems to idle lump for the first 10 seconds Sparks have been changed!
2) Has a hesitation between 1000-2000rpm like it jolts when you accelerate seems to smooth out in higher rpm's ( One of the solinoids seems to be disconnected at the back of the engine so il be trying to connect that tomorrow could this be causing it? doesnt seem like the v6 is as powerful as it should be!
3)il be fitting a fan switch tomorrow anything i should be aware of?
The MAJOR one at the moment is the Air Con! I have checked every fuse in the car thou i dont have a owners manual so i could be missing a fuse! When i press the aircon switch nothing happens no light comes on and the compressor doesnt kick in? anybody have any clues where to investigate this?
Thanks its only to make the car a bit more enjoyable for him. Im a motorsport designer so im not appraid to get my hands dirty ;D
Any other tips to get the v6 running nice are welcome too
Thanks guy this site is excellent!
keep it up

A big welcome to the site, some one with a more informed comment on the engine will be along.
I would look at putting the plug back on. Look for any oil in the coolant and such like. The aircon question and fuses there is a picture of the fuses and relays in the tech part (I am sure!) that may help.

Being a 2.5, do a 'paperclip test' (do a search here), and post up codes.
A/C may well be low gas, best to leave that to a decent A/C specilaist who will check for leaks, vac it, then regas it.

And dont fit a fan switch, get it working as it should be, manualy switching fans does nowt for engine running temp.
Sounds like its suffered some neglect which needs correcting.

sorry i call them fan switches but im talking about the 3 pin plug in the rad that im replacing.
Yea it has suffered some niglect. Just helping the old man out as he hasnt got too much money at the mo. The thing is the air con doesnt make any noise like a replay etc etc no light comes on the switch either? would this be caused by low aircon? What else should i check regarding it.
Thanks for all the comments really useful. Just the engine is the main stuff!
il do the paperclip test this morning and post up the results, if someone could let me know during the day as i can get the parts! cheers guys keep the ideas coming

Air con compressor is disabled if the gas pressure in the system is low, so this is a possibility (the most likely scenario, I'd say).

Yep, with aircon selected, check the centre of the bottom right pulley to see if its going round (with the engine running), if its not then there is most likely no gas in the system.

hi thanks il check this later on today i was just confused because i cant select the aircon inside the car becuase the light doesnt come on on the switch i would have at least thought the light on the switch would have come on?

No, the light is basicaly an indictor that the compressor is on (which is a good thing!)...so I suspect no gas.

cheers mate. right just gotta sort the engine now!

Remove the plenum and clean the breathers (see maintenance guide section).
Check plug wells for oil.
Check and double check the engine vac pipes.

Poor starting will more than likely be a crank sensor - at least it was with my car. Dead easy and fairly cheap to change. There is a guide in the maintenance section.
Air con is as others have said.
