Does anyone know if the cheopo TechII interface would work with a BMW (OBD2) with relevant software?

Post 2001 BMW used ISO EOBD standard.
Think some of ELM unit might?
The only way to be sure is try some 'freeware obd software'

Cheapo Tech 2 software does ask you for the car model and year, etc. Implying it's GM specific.

There are probably equivalents around for the BMW, or get a cheap generic code reader if reading engine codes is all you're after.

Reason I don't think cheapo will work on beemer is because Omega uses 4 diag lines, and the cheapo has a multiplexor in front of the MAX232 chip to select relevent line.
