Title: upgrading antiroll bars
Post by: lee4206 on 16 August 2007, 20:45:53
Hi all i want to upgrade my anti roll bars as it feels a bit wallowy (even affter its been droped 50mm).
I have a 98 2.0lt gls 16v salon manual with 104k on it. Does anyone know if the 2.5 3.0, auto or estate front and rear are stonger and will they fit (i know i'll have to change the  D bushes).
Hope someone can help..
Thanks
Lee

I suspect you are just not used to RWD...

FWD has to be stiff and uncomfortable to get the power down and to keep some traction.  RWD can be more comfortable and still keep traction.  I think you will find the Omega is very capable in the corners.  It may feel 'soft' if you've come from FWD, but you will soon get used to it...

I've had it for 4 years but due to being main car for ferrying kids and wife about i havn't really driven it hard but it just seems to lean to much into corners

Yes, thats quite normal for RWD...

Additionally, Omega has dual rate springs, so first bit of compression is soft for comfort, then stiffens up.

Sorry should  have alaborated a bit more   now we have a mpv i've been driving it (enjoying it) for a couple of months and can now start to mod it. It was really bad untill i lowered it (might just have been getting used to it) but it still seems to get a bit of understeer and wallows unless i want to get the back out and then its fine but i cant take every corner sidways!!
You are right though as before the kids i used to own a heavily modded mk2 astra that turned corners like it was on rails so it may just be me but i still want to try and improve it

Point I was trying to make may not improve it, depending on your definition.  RWD won't 'pull' it round the corners in the same way as FWD, so you may get a feeling of understeer...

Also, did you reset camber after lowering - MacP struts will lead to too much camber when lowered, causing issues with grip (and inside edge tyre wear!)?

The 2 bolts on bottom of strut, when loosened, allow camber to be adjusted.

As a starter, aim for 1'10
