Hi all,
my coolant check light came on and today I have noticed that coolant is leaking from the area of the back of the engine, it looks like it maybe the heater bypass valve :-/ Im not sure though,
Has anyone any ideas and is it fairly easy to fix?? :-/

cheap easy fix, sounds like HBV (Heater By Pass Valve)
Check all other pipes though, i don't think we have a guide yet but someone who has done a V6 HBV will be along soon...

The leak is usually drivers side & runs down the gearbox bell housing. I could also see it on the two pipes that side of the HBV.
Having changed mine twice in the last month ::) it's not difficult just really fiddly.
Took the scuttle & plenum off for access.....

HBV is likely. Try not to use car until fixed - it sprays water onto DIS pack, which can cause that to fail a few weeks later....

When you work for the heater bypass valve dont forget to check the area around the oil cooler. Mine loose coolant from there also..

I have replaced the HBV today and as I had taken off the plenum to get to it, I have decided to clean out the breather system aswell. :)
The heavens have just opened so I thought I'd pop back in and have a break, soon as the rain stops I'll be back out to finish putting it all back together and to test it, hopefully all will be well.

Well, all was going well, HBV replaced and breather system cleaned out!! :)
I took the car for a test drive and re-fueled, then I decided to take it up the dual carraige way and put my foot down. :-[
As I was slowing down and pulling off the carraige way I noticed that the engine sound had changed and now it sounds like a sherman tank, its as if there are no rocker covers on and there is no oil in the engine thats the best way I can describe it! :'(
Strange thing is that there are no warning lighs, no over heating, no smoke, it revs and ticks over fine and seems to drive ok apart from the allmighty racket coming from the engine!!
Any ideas??? :-[ :'( >:(

presumably you didn't have the the cam covers off?

No, the only thing to come off was the plennum. :(
I didnt take the scuttle off. :(
It just sounds like the covers are off now, its really noisey as if nothing is connected and everything inside is just clattering around. :'(
The noise is mainly coming from the passenger side of the engine, if thats any clue??

1) When the plenum was off, did you place rags / tissues in the inlet holes, to prevent anything from dropping down the inlet ports into the valves?
2) Can you see anything obviously loose, or any bolts kicking around anywhere?
3) Check your oil level - is it ok!?
4) When you re-fitted the plenum, check the EGR "wiggly" pipe connections over on the drivers side. Is the little exhaust gas pipe secure at both ends, especially on the EGR valve?
5) Idle control valve seated correctly and firmly?
6) Engine idle speed normal, any engine management light / warning lights on when running, or any fault codes?
7) Is it worse when underload - and does the noise increase with engine revs when in neutral?
8) Secondary air injection all connected up OK?
9) Did you remove and plug leads, and potentially get them crossed on refitting?
Without being more specific about the noise, it's hard to tell ....

I made sure nothing got down the inlet tubes, even double checked with a torch just to be on the safe side, everything else i checked aswell before I ran the engine and it all looked ok. :-/
The engine ran fine around town even with me being heavy footed for around 30 mins until I put it in sport mode and floored it down the dual carraige way for literally 30 seconds.
I have towed it to my local garage now and they cant tell whats wrong unless they start stripping it down, they said its definatelly the right bank(passenger side) and its something metalic rattling around, either something wrong with the cam shaft or something has got into the piston?? :-[
either way they have to stirp it to find out, but there are no warning lights, oil is ok, coolant is ok, temp is ok, tick over is ok and no smoke from exhaust??? :'(
