Hello Im new here. About 3 months ago I bought a year 2000 W reg omega 2.5 v6 face lift estate. It had passed an mot the day before. When I got it home the cats were both rattling. The next day I took it to a garage and they said it needs new cats. I made the mistake of buying aftermarket ones and they are very noisey. Where can I get good used Genuine cats from? The outher problem is the heater onley works on the passenger side, and there is a noise coming from the alternator area that gets higher when the revs rise but it is not a squeek.
thanks Dave

finding used cats could put you back in the situation you were in beforehand...however if that's the only option you have i would suggest ebay and look for someone with good feedback
the heater could be a few things, i would start with doing a reset on the climate system, press and hold the auto and off buttons down for about 5 seconds you will hear the flaps move around and reset themselves.
the alternator noise is a little more worrying, this could be the Aux belt tensioner with is situated above the alternator, its a black plastic pulley wheel, thses have a tendancy for the bearing to collapse and when they do they will throw the aux belt, it has been know for the engine to digest the belt and for it to cause the cambelt to come adrift, thus causing engine damage, you really need to get this investigated as a priority
BTW welcome :y

You could try logging an enquiry here, but you'll need to register with them first (it's free)
www.partsgateway.co.uk
They search various Vauxhall breakers and spares centres and then e-mail you when they find what you're looking for. They are pretty good as I've used them a few times.

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum
There is a place in Saltney, Chester called Road Runners and all they break is Vauxhalls, they have loads of Omegas there. The other option is to post up in the wanted section of the forum as there are quite a few members who break Omegas. The noise from the alternator side of the engine could be the tensioner or a bearing in the alternator, the easiest way to find out is remove the Aux belt and run the engine :y

Thanks very much everyone. I have just tried what jay w said (reset the climate system), and it made the passenger side much better, but still cold on the drivers side. What else would you try? I know the place in saltny I will give them a try. If I remove the aux belt and the noise stops, How do I know what is making the noise? Thanks agian everyone :y

Sorry Dave :-[
I should have said once the Aux belt is off to remove the tensioner pulley and remove the small circular bearing covers which allows you to pack some grease into the front and rear of the bearing then replace the covers.

Thanks, will give that a go :)

Anyone know what I could do about the heater problem? :-/

Anyone know what I could do about the heater problem? :-/
i have had this on my Elite....
you will need to get your head in the footwells. ideally i would start with the passenger side, remove the trim that hides the underside of the glovebox, this will reveal the heater box and part of the motor assembly.
if you look at the side of the heater box you will see there are some vacum units, they wiull have small bore pipeing going to them, if i remember there should be two on the side of the heater box and one near the back of the motor assembly on the firewall.
are all the pipes on? are any of them damaged? i fixed mine by sucking and blowing each tube until i had eliminated them all, mine had a small nick in it and wasnt creating enough pressure to adjust the cabin temp.
hope that helps

Thanks for getting back to me :y you say it has one in both foot wells and I should look in the passenger first. The passenger side heater works fine, could there still be a problem with the passenger one? thanks :)

It seems updated software on the facelift climate panel makes a difference...

If you take off the aux belt you coukld try spinning the idlers by hand and see if any of them is noisy, though this is not conclusive as they may only be noisy with the belt's tension.
But make sure its from the aux belt / lower part of the engine, and not the dreaded cambelt tensioner slightly higher-up... do you have record of the last cambelt and tensioner change?

There are two or three on the passenger side and only the one on the drivers side, it's been such a long time since i fixed mne i cant remember which one does what, my reason for suggesting the passenger side is that there are more on that side so hopefully you would have a better chance of striking gold first time round

Dave, I know the feeling - New universal cat on my 2.0 made it sound sh**te and really pished me off. I think the seller of the cat (B+M exhausts, Derby) knew exactly what my problem was when i called and complained but he didn't give a hoot and just fobbed me off! I didn't use my Credit card for the purchase, else i would have claimed through the CC company.
Best thing i ever did since then was buy a 2nd hand cat from a breaking Omega on Ebay and all my problems were solved, not to mention throwing the universal cat in the bin.
Cheers

I know what you meen. It sounds like a differnt car with these aftermatket cats on (a sh+te car). All the noise of the engine is coming from the cats when I rev it. Hardly any noise it coming ftom the back box exit. I can not wait to get new cat on it. The only problem is, my wife is pi++ed of enough with having to get new cats the day after we bought it. :'(
