hi all started my car this morning and was greeted with a loud hollow sounding rattle seemed to be coming from underneath manifold at the front died down when idle dropped down after warming up but still noticable..i know its not much to go on but anyone got any ideas....1998 mv6

failing manifold gasket? (hopefully not cracked manifold). Noise often reduces as it warms up so symptoms seem to fit.
Others more familiar will confirm or otherwise..

Have you checked the heat shields for security? A jubilee clip or two can sort it if the securing bolts are rusted through, causing them to vibrate a bit when at idle or critical revs as the engine revs drop down.

My old one used to do this. It was the manifold gasket. Used to go when the car was warmed up and the metal had expanded with the heat!
