The next problem I have with my car is when I plug the electrical conector in from my caravan, the fuel gage stops working. Everything else works fine. The fuel gage works again when the conector is removed. Anyone know what this could be? Any advice would be appreciated.

Is it the 12N (black) or 12S (grey) connection that is causing the problem ?
If it's the 12S, one of the connections is a low current ignition live feed that goes to the 'van "inhabitation relay" ... if it has been wired to the fuel guage line that might be the problem.. ??

I only has one conection, and its black. Its the one for the tail lights

12N (black) does a lot more than just tail lights !! have a read here !!

It might be worth disconnecting each line in turn to see which causes the problem, however the installing of towbar wiring is getting harder and harder due to the sensitivity of car electronics
More info on 12N, 12S here :
