just wondering how does the under tray aid cooling?

MDTM Would be best to explain but basically I think it's all about the way the air is channeled through the engine bay

i left mine off thinking it would let more cool air in. maybee stick it back on then?

It will help cooling if you are standing in traffic, it will impede cooling when on the move.

Incidentally, this is the same reason why computers do not work cooler with the lid of or with blanking plates removed at the back...

The car does run cooler without the bumper on, struggled to get to 95 deg.
