Title: Electrical fault??
Post by: phil21turbo on 27 August 2007, 23:37:43
Some strange going on with the Omega this week.  Appear to be electrical, but do not have a clue about these things!!

Replaced rear brake light today.  On removing the bulb noticed that it had actualy cracked, and has a white residue inside!  New bulb in, worked fine.

About six hours later the brake light warning was appearing on the dash/consol screen.

checked brake light operation and was fine.

Continued with my journey with cruise control, when I turned lights on cruise control would not function?  Turn off and it worked again perfectly fine??

Checked brake light again, and found that brake lights not working, and eye level brake light in rear window was stuck on.

I removed the newly replaced bulb, and the eye level brake light resumed to normal function, as did the cruise control??

Any ideas?

Haunted?  :o  ;D

A bad earth, possibly around the rear light cluster? Dodgy headlight switch?

Sounds like a faulty brake pedal switch...

I'd say the tail light circuit was shorting to the brake light circuit somehow, making the cruise believe the brakes were on and interfering with the check control. Maybe the wrong type of bulb or a poor earth connection at the bulb holder?

Altough was another car I lived similiar problem..Within 2-3 months time I changed 8-9 bulbs in rear light..Possibly caused by oxidation..I changed the rear lights completely and problem solved..Also a good electrician may be will find the exact problem..

Was the bulb the correct wattage, or has correct connections ?
