Title: noise in auto box

hi all
yesterday stood at traffic lights still in drive heard rumbling noise from auto box dropped into nuetral the noise went back in to drive noise back its not a loud noise but the car is so quiet i noticed this straight away it drove ok in all gears behaved as it should just noisy when stood in drive holding brake 1998 2.5 cdx hope someone can shed light on it

Whats the mileage?

Consider a fluid change as a first port of call, take the front sump off fist to cehck for the presence of 'escaped' thrust washers.

just coming up to 85000 ive had car 5 yrs dont do mega miles about 8000 a year
was 33000 when i got it in 2002
was thinking of changing oil but mechanic sucked thru teeth when i mentioned oil change
so will cost arm and a leg i suspect

Gaskets and filter £38 delivered from JPAT, Dexron III £20 5l from Halfords, need about 7l.  It is a DIY job ;)
