Post by: LFF64 on 31 August 2007, 12:25:36
Does anyone else have problems with there brake light bulbs keep blowing or is it just me  :-/ The lampholder looks ok I have cleaned up the contacts and they are good ;) But I still am having problems It may be just rubbish bulbs (Halfords own ) but I have been using them for years on different cars with no problems. Obviously not the same ones of course  ;D

If I were you I'd check that the alternator's output voltage is being regulated correctly.  If charging voltage is significantly higher than it should be, the effect on bulb failure rates will be dramatic.  Worth a look, maybe?

I got a bulb from halfrauds, cant remember how much it was, I put it in, and the brake light was always on. thought it might have been in wrong so fiddled with it, again, always on!

went to my local shop, bought a fresh bulb for 85p and its worked fine ever since

I dont think its voltage related not checked it yet but will do just in case :-/ I popped in to Halfords on the way to work .And picked up some Bosch type £2.69 for 2 thought might as well get 4 so I could replace both sides and have a couple as spares £5.38 used the trade card and got all 4 for £1.32  :y I did not realise I could use it on bulbs  :) I will change them later and see how they last

I seem to recall reports that the Omega was very sensitive on its bulbs (I kid you not) - slight tolerance error resulting in all sorts or wierd problems.

BTW - I have just got a Halfords trade card.  How do you know what's available on it and what the price is?  Do you have to ask every time?
