Morning chaps....
I intend to do an oil and filter change today as its always done on the 5k.
the question is........... Is it ok to use an engine flush every time as the oil is changed that often?
Cheers....
Keith..........

Engine flush is not a bad thing by itself, BUT if done on an engine that has not been properly maintained in the past it carries the risk of dislodging accumulated crude and blocking the oilways resulting in (very expensive) engine failure. So the general advice is that unless the engine has been flushed at every oil change since new, it is best not to risk it and not start flushing it at an advanced age. Short (3-5k) oil changes should keep it clean, if you have concerned you can do a 'quick' oil change, i.e. run the engine on new oil for a 1000 miles or so then change it again.
-
Also, it is paramount to keep the engine breathers clean, see:

forgot to mention i've only had this Omega for 5 months and it has 97k on it. its had two oil changes so far and is now ready for a third as its on 105k and both previous changes had the flush in it hence my concern for flushing out so soon again.....

You could argue that if you had two flushes already then you should be OK and there is no risk in flushing it again. This may be so, but personally I wouldn't risk it... just change the oil frequently and you should be OK. Also, use the GM/Vauxhall 10W-40, it is good quality and inexpensive. I sent you PM re the breathers.

Nothing to do with oil change - when were the cambelt and tensioner last changed? if it was before you bought the car, then unless you have a bill showing clearly when it was last done I suggest that you get it changed as a matter of urgency... just our standard warning to newcomers

Hello yet again......
just spotted your last reply asking when the tensioners where changed.
i had them changed along with the belt and water pump a week after purchace at a cost of £404 at vauxhalls
(not sure if this was a good deal or not?)
cheers............

Good call on the change....... :y Well done....
Parts are under £100 on Trade Club which most members have access to here and available to forum members either directly or indirectly.
Cost to change (certainly for me last weekend.....) was a couple of handshakes and a few drams of quality malt and a favour or two stored for future redemption.
No offence intended, I think I got the better deal. ( but I know what I paid for various things for my beastie before I found this place...... :'( )

Keith............
£404 at Vx is ok - try an independant next time - fitted with genuine Vx parts it could be half the price :-[ Oil flush...I woudn't bother. Save your money and change the oil as Markjay suggested to keep it sweet.

It's on the upper range for main dealer, i.e. with a bit of haggling you could have gotten it down slightly, but it is not unreasonable for main dealer. Anyway, what is important is that it is done!

Personally I only flush the oil if there appears to be a propblem with the oil system.
Regular oil changes is normally a better option.

never used any flush on my 2.2 omega... just regular oil changes. Made a big difference to the general smoothness

not even worthy of comments about smoothness comparisons. As you well find out when oil cooler is fixed.

again - never use a flush on my own car. I see it as a problem solver. Regular oil changes with the correct oil is the best you can do for your engine.

If the multi-rams are working, then i won't be impressed, it feels very flat! Has no low down grunt (which it should!)
