Title: power stering

hi chaps. got a poblem with me power stering? on left hand full lock thers a bad noise? and if the car is on idel i lose power stering ? its fine if you blip the gas but go`s hard again after a min . eny ideas? :-[

Firstly, check the fluid level.  Should be done when cold.  Remove cap, wipe fluid from stalk in cap, then LAY not screw ( :o ) the cap back into the resevoir.  Fluid should be between the marks, towards the upper is better.  If not, top up.

Noise on full lock is not unusual and generally nothing to worry about.  Just don't hold it there for longer than neccessary....

The engine idle speed should be enough to give power steering at idle but may be that the pump is a wee bit tired or the aux belt needs replacing, perhaps??

Had a smilar problem on my dads Omega,his fluid level had just dropped below the minimum mark,topped fluid up,turned wheels lock to lock 10 times (to bleed system) and it cured it..HTH...Wayne

just check`d the fluid its ok but the noise is a proper growling down the bottom of the front of the engin bay?

In that case, its quite likely that its the pump, someone with more experience will probably be along soon to confirm.  There are always cars being broken in the parts section and no doubt you will be able to source a pump there if its required.   ;)

what sort of job are they 2 change and how much are they? :'(
