Can anyone with more knowledge than me help. My brother inlaw has  VECTRA B 2.5 V6 SRI and wanted to know where the engine no is located, so i went and had a look to let him know. But here is where i need help, the engine no is unreadable due to rust and i am almost pos that the engine number on the log book is not the currant no. Is the number stamped any where else as he will need a cam belt change soon and they ask for the engine no :(.

long shot but if the reg number of the donor car was known...they may be able to identify via registration.

Can you give it a wire brushing?

or ring Vx up for a parts quote, they'll ask you - you ask them where to find it..?

sorry markie no can do, just spoken to the previous owner and he confirmed what i thought,n the original engine seized due to the wrong oil being used, and he bought a replacement via ebay,and the number was not known. :-?

Hi ians, i know where it should be, but rusted away. Nothing is easy is it,why do i  get involved in the first place? :o

I assume these numbers are stamped into the metal?

If so try cleaning off the area, smear some white paint or tippex
over it. Give it a little time to go tacky and stick into any indentations.
Clean it off the surface. If you're lucky, the paint will stay enough
in the indentations to highlight the number.
Long shot, but may work.

If you had access to crack checking gear you could try the penetrant
dye and developer to try and highlight the indentations.

If all else fails, whip the TB cover off and see what letters are embossed to the rollers.
