Right I decided to try my TC at a different dealer (Banbury) I had intended to do the oil etc but on my way there my brake light warning (pads) came on :( so no problem I decided to do the brake pads and get them instead. I asked if it was ok to use the tc and this was no problem at all unlike at the other dealer I tried the other day >:( pads and the wear indicators £31.11 or thereabouts the indicators were more than the pads :-? I had intended to change the pads this afternoon took the offside wheel off and found the pad not as excessiley worn as I was expecting but the indicator had broken. I dropped the caliper off to remove the old pads and on inspection I have found that the inner pad has a step worn in it on the outer edge, this matches a raised ridge on the disc so disc fubar :( the other side of the disc is not too bad it has a slight lip on it. The nearside disc looks fairly good althought it has a lip. I know they will both require changing. Question is where would you suggest I get the discs from
Halfords £56ish with tc local carpart place about £40 or genuine vx with tc (anyone know how much ). Suggestions please :y
-
VX TC - £69 + VAT which includes the pads.
The pattern ones on my MV6 are rubbish. I'd stick to genuine if you can.
-
What about just discs I brought the pads yesterday from vx
-
Oh and if any one spots a gorilla walking around with a wheel brace I could have done with him earlier >:( I had to stand and bounce (and I am not that light) :-[ on the wheel brace to undo the nuts they were stupidly tight >:(

Fairly certain on TC only available as a disc/pad set (doesn't include sensors though :-/)...
You could ring Banbury 01295 755400 and ask if they will do discs only, and how much. Quote your TC number...

If you ain't fitted the new pads yet how about asking them to swap for a disc/pad set?

Just put 'em in a drawer for another time.
-
Thanks TB I will do that. I will take a pic of the wear on the old disc when I get it off it is a bit odd the way it has worn

Similar, I suspect, to Tunnies 2.2 and my tractor...

gen vx discs made a big, big BIG difference on mine...
If you change the discs, bleed and flush the fluid too! :y
-
Yes I was hoping they may be able to do something as they have not been fitted yet I mean they are going to be the same pads arent they after all.I had thought about doing the fluid too but I think it may have been done recently by the previuos owner, To tell the truth the pads are not even that bad they are just over half gone and they are genuine ones too. What I did mean to ask is on the new pads there was a direction arrow I am assuming this points in wheel direction when fitted :question
-
IME, its the wheel rotation direction.
-
Yes, and also the two pads with the arrow go on the inner side, the ones without the arrow goes on the outer side.
Having said that, I apparently drove 25k miles on pads installed by Vx with the arrows pointing in the wrong direction (as I discovered when I took them out to replace them) , and did not notice any problems...

Usefull information .. thankyou ... Mr Haynes makes no mention of this... another printout added to the growing pile of tips from this site... by the time I come to do the work I'll have killed a dozen trees !!!
-
I wasn't aware they were directional but then I haven't installed any GM pads :-[ (yet)
The pads on TC are very cheap so I would just keep them if they won't exchange them for the disks+pads (as you say probably the same ones!).
-
Right managed to get dealers today to sort these pads out after a few problems egr valve etc. I must say they are very helpful at Bridge in Banbury. As TB said onTC the deal is for a packaged set 2xdiscs and the pads. After explaining the problem I had they let me have the TC set in the box after paying the extra
The TC price for these inc vat is £81.78 looking at the retail price they are £96 +vat
-
Yup, thats the TC price including Vodka And Tonic. Sounds like you have a dealer it would be worth to keep in with....
-
Well they cant be too bad I know TB and Tunnie use them ;)

Aye, decent parts dept. Little held in stock, but very helpful, and understand the customer is king.
