Hi Guys, new to omega ownership, and have a slight problem , my car is an omega 2.2cdx on a 2000 plate, have developed a loud cracking noise when I close drivers door, also hard to close if opened fully, it appears to be some thing to do with the metal check strap, is this an easy thing to replace, cheers

Hhmmm..... ::)

First stop is the plastic ring thats part of the mounting between the check strap and the car itself. About 30 pence or less from a dealer. Change that first, see if it improves and, if not, use the search function for 'crack of doom' and you will see the next step! :y
-
The fact that it is hard to close implies that the door is damaged now. You dealer can provide a repair kit for a few quid, basically 2 plates that clamp either side of door skin where check strap enters door.

Just to let everyone know the torx screw part number has changed from:-
13104167 to 13155557 14pence each
I am not sure when it changed but I brought mine on Monday 03/09/07
The plastic bushing 90462823 are 21pence each
and the plates 9195961 are £1.13 each

thanks for replies guys, went to vauxhalls today but they told me kit is only sold by vauxhall bodyshops as they have to be welded in place and painted , I thought the plates were bolted through, somthing I could do at home does this sound correct or have I been given the wrong information.

That is utter rowlocks..... It is a 30 min fix once the door panel is removed and needs nothing like a bodyshop to do. Closest it needs is the plates get a quick spray with a rattle can of the paint that is closest colour to your car before bolting it all together. ::)

As Hotel21 said, they are talking rubbish... ...no welding etc required....
-
Vauxhall list a repair section that replaces the inner reinforcing plate. The original is spot welded and their procedure is to drill out the spots and weld in the new section.
I repaired mine by drilling out the welds, then used 3/16 or thereabouts pop rivets to fit the new section. Not too hard to do, but the door needs to come off for easy access, again not too difficult. So far still intact.

Recently bought a high mileage Omega.
I now realise that all the things that I think aren't quite right with it are very common faults.
The crack of doom is the latest one where I've now discovered I am not alone! Presumably the worst that can happen (apart from waking my neighbours at 6 am if I have to go to work early) is that the restraint stops restraining? The hinges themselves should be OK?
-
Actual hinges will be fine, but the check strap can and does get wrenched through and from the metalwork of the door, in entirety, and really needs a replacement door as a result..... Can be repaired by the method outlined above if caught early enough, entails removing checkstrap and sandwiching a pair of shaped plates either side of the door metalwork and bolting it all together again..... :y
-
loud crack , yes when open my driver door there is two its like crack 1/4 way then just befor fully open ,did not think anything of it till now .is it bad?

Anyone that heard mine at the Not Wales Meet will know how bad it can get. I fear mine may now be past the "two plate" repair as there now is no noise but no restraint either & it was fine a few weeks ago....

I don't really think you can see it so wouldn't even bother ;D

Maybe not, but is does protect the metal from the elements, and should hold back any rust forming for a while...

Mine had just the strap, no mechanism. Also the top had been ripped out leaving nothing for the bolt to go through. A replacement mechanism and a reinforcement plate on the outer solved the problem, oh and a new bush.
