I have a 1999 2.0i auto estate, which runs okay but frequently cuts at when I pull up at junctions. It seems to be okay from cold, but if I pull up at a shop, and then drive off - it will tend to cut out more. Any ideas please?

Could be the breathers need cleaning.

If it's a 2.0 it'll probably be the Idle Air Control Valve. Does it sometimes hold onto the revs as well?

No, it sometimes dips in revs but don't quiet cut out; then the enginer management will just pick it up and raises the revs and it sort of causes the car to lurch a bit if your holding it on the brake at a junction.

my 3.0 V6 does exactly the same, ive changed throttle postion sensor, ICV, maf and cleaned all breathers, still no joy, i also get a sucking sound from the black breather box on top (ecotech on it) so im assuming its sucking in extra unmeterd air somewhere???

I don't know if this is relevant, but I had a new middle and back box fitted yesterday as they had been blowing for some time, and the problem seems to have gotten worse since then

The breather box does have a hiss to it and I believe this to be normal. Is the exhaust genuine or after market? I had centre and back box and am still having trouble with it, that'll teach me to trust kwikfit ::)

Ditto. My problem is leaking at the joints from cats to centre pipe and from centre to back box. Taken it back 4 times and they just keep putting putty round the joints. Idiots!

IACV will normally give problems if the Small breather pipe or Jet is blocked.
This will cause the oily fumes that normally travel down the small breather pipe
to flow down the larger breather pipe and through the IACV.
Detach the small breather pipe from your cam box cover as shown in the
following pic.
Start engine and check for a good suction through the the black breather
hose by placing your thumb on and off the end of it.
If no suction, it's blocked.

Seeing as it's got worse since work done on the exhaust system, it's possible
your exhaust sensors/ cables have been damaged.
Do a 'PaperClip' test iaw this link.

As your's is a 99 2.0L, you'll probably have a Simtec 56.5 ECU which will
give you 4 figure Flash codes, not 2 figure.
Post up results when above tests actioned.

mine had the same problem, i had the ICV, throttle body and breathers cleaned and never had a problem since
worth starting there i think

There is no point cleaning the IACV until you are sure that the Small Breather Pipe
and the Jet it connects to just below the Throttle Body is clear.
If it isn't clear, you are just wasting your time as it will oil straight up again.
Have you checked for a suction at the Small breather hose yet as I showed you?
All you need is a pair of pliers to squeeze and remove the retaining clip.
Job takes 5 minutes max.

Mine do similiar..Except MAF I changed everything..
But possibly related to EGR (I blocked)..If I open the EGR block dont have this problem..But EGR causes power loss and increase consumption..So I give up..
add : after the post I searched net ..
The solutions were : IACV (as stated), pipes related to IACV, Throttle cleaning, Throtte Postion sensor and rarely camshaft sensor
Hope this give idea..

There isnt any suction on the small breather pipe coming off of the rocker box, and therefore I need to clean it. I have removed the end off of the rocker box but cannot get to undo the clip at the other end. It said I had got to clean the jet too - so I started to loosen of the 19mm nut where the other end of the hose terminates - and water started leaking out! Do I take it I just need to get longer pliers and remove the hose clip, and where is this jet? Sorry to be a nonce but Im not a great mechanic, but am on a really tight budget so would like to try and see this through as far as I can myself.
