Title: Rough running following cold start
Post by: baldeagle on 11 September 2007, 21:56:25
My 2.2 petrol (52 plate) engine misfires and "pinks" for 20 -30 seconds when starting from cold then runs normally. Also runs normally when restarting a warm engine. Any ideas what the cause might be please?

Just a thought, have you checked for oil/water in the plug wells?

as AA says oil in plug wells - denoting rockers, check its getting a spark to every cylinder, ie check plugs, ignition leads, potentially dispack...

Alternatively......crank sensor...would cause starting issue but ot necessarily roughness..

Could be weeping injector(s) causing an early or secondary flame wave
showing up as pinking until the cylinders clear.

A hot engine will evaporate the fuel and as it hasn't been standing so for long,
(being hot), there may not have been enough weepage to cause a problem.

1)Press the throttle pedal fully down and crank the engine over for approx
30 secs. This will cause the injectors not to operate and clear the cylinders.

2)Switch off, take your foot of the throttle and start normally.

If it now starts and runs ok, you'll need to change the injector(s)

If still the same, at least you've ruled out 1 possible fault.  :D
