Morning everyone
Just a quick question, can anyone tell me the torque setting and the sequence in which the bolts on the plenum have to be tightened? its a 2.0 16v
The reason for this question is that i changed the to a new plenum and gasket (genuine vx) (also used the black silicone!) 3 months ago and oil is leaking into the plugs again! so im putting it down to the bolts not torqued enough and/or wrong sequence of the bolts being tightened. :( :-/

i belive its 8nm for the top bolts on the 2.0... however wait for someone to confirm :y

Oil leak into plugs is due to leaking camcovers, presumably this is what you are actually referring to, not the plenum itself?
The camcovers bolts are 8NM, the full procedure is in the Maintenance Guides section, check if you followed it closely, and most importantly that you used the correct sealant (check the Vx P/N) and that you applied it precisely as described and in the right places.
The actual tightening order is not important as such (i.e. this is not a cylinder head) but it should be done evenly and in stages until the final torquing is applied.

What issues can over tightening have? i used a genuine VX gasket and the black sealent,....and i put it where it says in the haynes manual:
Rear cut outs
front corners of cam wheels

Distorts the cover, hence not a good seal.
8Nm is not very much at all....

Did you clean the breather system at the same time? That is likely the cause of the original failure.

I causes an un-even seal, you need a nice even seal across the lenght of the cam cover.
8nm is very, very lightly nipped up. The gasket is only sqeezed slightly. I suspect its been over tightend.
Do you have a low setting torque wrench?
