Hi all,
just joined this forum after picking up my omega 2.2 cd yesterday. All seems to be fine apart from being a bit lumpy on tickover. Drives great but idle seems to be a bit erratic, nothing major but the needle does move slightly up and down and sounds a bit rough.
I took the top off the throttle body and cleaned it out as it was a bit mucked up, also checked the plugs etc and all fine.anybody got any ideas?

This should be useful - sounds like you cleaned the top of this.
Also check the state of your plugs and or any oil around them

Did clean out the throttle body and all pipes connected but didn't really make a difference. On one of the air pipes coming off the throttle body i followed the pipe down to a sort of valve that was in a bracket attatched to the back of the air box(under the header tank). I took the pipes off both sides and held them together so as to bypass that valve and idle seemed to settle down, so went to Vauxhall to order this valve. They knew it as a evaporation control valve, but is this the idle control valve that i've read about? It's about an inch long with a two pin connector on one side, and an air pipe goes in one side of it and out the other? The part isn't coming until thursday, cost £30, I'll let you know if it does cure the problem.

When you say you took the top off the throttle body, do you mean you completely removed it, or did you just remove the hose on the top?
If you did completely remove it, was the buttlerfly operating smoothly and did you replace the throttle body gasket?
Did you clean out all the breather pipes from the camcovers, including the one at the back of the engine that goes down to the sump, and also replace it's gasket?
The symtoms you have are blocked breathers and/or sticking butterfly.
Don't know what you mean by 'evaporation control valve'.
A 2.2 doesn't have an ICV as such as it's a 'Drive by Wire', unlike the 2.0.

Yeah took throttle body completly off and cleaned it, including the small pin hole( which was clogged up) I didn't check the operation of the butterfly, and cleaned out a few pipes, but they weren't that bad. The car drives fine, just a little rough on idle, which is a shame cause it's so smooth otherwise.

Check the operation of the butterfly, it should move freely, it won't hurt to put a little, and I mean a little oil at each end of the spindle.
Did you change the throttle body gasket? If not, I would change that.

I have had the same problem as : bubble1973-and did every thing that has been suggested, even replaced the exhaust manifold & EGR valve but like : bubble1973 says it idles just not quite right. Also he is right about the valve he is talking about mine is a drive by wire and has the exact same valve, a pipe comes off the throttle body at the base towards the (front) of the engine, goes to this valve, i don't know what its correct name is also . But like : bubble1973 have done the same thing and my car idled better. Could you let me know how you get on when you have installed yours please : bubble1973. I agree with you i have only had my 2.2 litre CD 2002 for a few weeks and the idle problem is the only thing that lets it down,. And believe me i have done every thing, plugs new dis pack , manifold, EGR valve, rocker gasket, cleaned breathers out ,throttle body out ,new gaskets. Had it on snap on diagnostic three times showing no faults and none in memory. cheers bash

Hi bash, changed this valve and no difference, £30 down the drain!! Do you mean that you tried holding the pipes together too cause that did make a difference to the tick over. Wondering if there is a power problem to that valve cause it has an electrical connector??

Doesn't seem to be electrical?? It's as if the engine is slightly misfiring, is that the same as yours?

Try changing the Fuel filter, this has worked wonders with some cars.
