Title: Couple of probs!!
Post by: PhilCavSRi130 on 07 September 2007, 21:52:56
Hi guys anyone help me with these 2?

1. Cruise control has stopped working suddenly. does it have an ecu or relay which controls it, and if so where are they?

2 Aircon doesn't go cold anymore. plenty of gas in the system but still doesnt get cold at all. Any ideas of checks to carry out, and yet again any control relays or ecu?

Any advice would be welcome. Ta very much!

Check the bowden cable isn't snapped!  If it was working, that is probably most likely cause.

A/C - is the clutch coming it, causing compressor to spin?

Howdoo, long time no see.....   :y

On a 98 model year car, cruise is contained within actuator on inner wing with addition of brake/clutch switches and control stalk.  If it fails, you need to look at one or other of these.  Would suggest brake switch as first port of call as pedal may creep and switch may not take up the corresponding slack as wear in the brakes comes in.  Try puting your foot under brake/clutch and lift to ensure switch contacts are made.

After that, simply clean all contacts and ensure alls good.  remember to ensure control cable is in one peice and not snapped.

Aircon - do revs drop or change at idle when you switch the aircon in or out using the eco button?  Might be worth puting QuickFit to the test with their reduce aircon temp challenge for small squids to ensure alls ok....    :y

Incorrect or badly fitted stop lamp bulbs can cause strange cruise control failures, at least it's cheap fix.

Aye been up to my neck in it mate what with cars, work, carshows, and camping, dont seem to have had much time for the forums just lately!!

Cheers guys will check cable on cruise and switches...

Yes the revs go up when i switch from eco back to normal. How do you mean the clutch on the compressor?? does it have a similar system to the old viscious fans?? I thought the compressor was run off the fanbelt??

With AC off, you should see pulley rotating, but the inner part of pulley stationary.  With AC on, the inner part of pulley should turn...

Update on the aircon prob. Checked all the relays, from the list in technical on here, and all seem to be working ok. The compressor seems ok as i can hear it cut in and out as its changed from eco to normal. I see from the relay list there is a coolant pump for the aircon. Can anyone give me an idea where this is so i can check it?

Gonna look at the cruise tonight and will update tomorrow... ;)

A/C may be a vac prob or HBV sticking, causing heat to full flow into cabin....  HBV is back of plenum near to DIS pack, just incase you didn't know...
