Title: 2.5 v6 autobox (again!)
Post by: darkdoberman on 20 September 2007, 14:53:13
Hi everyone

I have had my 2.5 petrol v6 auto (1997) for around 1 month now and today at the end of my road i pulled away from stationary pretty quickly as its a busy junction and a loud clunk came from the front of the car - also the revs dropped and then picked up again - i basicly lost drive for a second - then it happened again in the same manouvre .. very loud clunk loss of drive then picked up.
This was worrying enough but then on the duel carriageway as it changed into top gear there was vibration from the same area on acceleration which went away when i decellarated??
Any ideas would be very much appreciated as the garages where i live are more used to tractors than cars and i would like to go in fore-armed with some ideas before they decide im better off in a john deer and consign the omega to a field for the sheep to use as a feeding trough :)

Also i would like to comment on the great community you have all established here - you must be very proud , and kind to spend your time helping not so knowledgable folk such as myself for free.

Thanks again
Paul

That sounds disturbing like the thrust washer disintergrating.

Time to open the gearbox, as if doing oil and filter change and check for broken plastic.

Yes, does not sound too good.  Reasonable 2nd hand autoboxes aren't dear, I would consider trying to get one for around £100...
