Title: Bizarre Problem
Post by: Wayne on 18 September 2007, 16:40:24
i just replaced my windscreen wiper blade as the last one i thought was knackered

after buying the new one, there is no diference..
my problem is that when the wiper blade goes from left to right, it misses a section of the actual glass!
its really bizarre!
i have tried bending the arm so that it puts more pressure on the glass but it makes hardly any difference
if you watch it in motion, it goes left to right and then sort of lifts up by about 1cm which is then missing the rear glass!

anyone else come across this?

Change the wiper arm assy, as this sounds like a spring tension problem. Go get one from the breakers yard ;) Only one nut, job done.

Yep i agree with Dazzler, my rear wiper was doing the same.....weak spring  :y

Altho I would get a new one from dealer.....they arent that much and a 2nd hand one might either be the same or not last very long before that does the same  :y

Mine was OK when I bought the car, but I thought I'd treat it to new wipers all round (Bosch).

Now it misses the high brake light area completely.  :( :(

I can hear you all thinking "If it ain't broke, dont fix it." allready.  :-[  :-[

I blame Taxi Driver. He muddied the waters first by talking about his rear screen wiper. :y

Mine misses the lower section, but if I draw a pair of eyes, a nose and a mouth a few days after its been washed, it looks like a snowmans head

Eddie.

That'll be the reason then  ;)

Bosch wipers arent as flexible as Vx wipers.

Rear Estate wiper MUST be original, others just do a poor job.
Also found the vauxhall genuine front ones both clean better and last longer than any of Halfords, Bosch, Champion.
And even better a new set is about a tenner on trade club, so replace all ours at least yearly at price, don't put up with squeak or judder anymore

i have always had Bosch wipers, the rear one has been replaced every year, but now it doesnt wipe properly as i stated

i believe it just MUST be the arm itself on the rear wiper system

maybe bosch have changed the design, I bought one at the start of the year, 1-2 months later it was in the bin, replaced with a Vauxhall one (which is also cheaper  :y )  and never looked back.

Yours is an estate, most of them do this. It's annoying, but possible to get right with a bit of faffing!

Firstly, I would remove the whole arm and give a damn good clean in the kitchen sink, the spring gets crudded up where it mounts and it seems to be less 'pliable'. Give the blade a good wash and brush, again, it gets stiff where the 'pivot' points are (replace if necessary). Then i'd give all the joints on the blade a good old flexing past their usual travel to free them up. Make sure it's nice and dry then apply a drop of oil on all joints. Refit, hope for the best and get ready to do it again a couple of months down the line!  ;D (Stand and admire the rusty rear wiper arm as well  ::) )

.....and only buy genuine VX wipers. Others don't work. Cheap on Trade Club as well  :y
