Title: what to look for?
Post by: s14adave on 26 September 2007, 17:28:18
hi guys if/when i find an omega what do i look out for?

what are the most common faults?
do they rust badly?

If i got a diesel what performance upgrades can you get?

who do remaps?
is the actuator on the TD adjustable?
what flange is the turbo on them? ie T2, T3?

and is the diff a plated or open diff?

For a 2.5TD, contact Omegatoy for chips.  Have one in mine and its a huge improvement in drivability (but wont win races).  I know his is possibly chipped further, but runs risk of damaging engine....

...and as we're frequently reminded an early automatic gearbox type AR25 cannot handle the standard output of a 2.5TD in excess of 100K miles, let alone a tuned one
Having said that my standard engine has done 131K now & the gearbox is still operating OK
The only problem was water getting into the selector when I drowned it in July's floods

All Omega auto diesels came with AR25s.... :(

The moral of the story being - If you want to tune a TD, make sure it's got a manual box
Ain't that right TB? :)

No, the manual box struggles with the torque as well.  For torque, the AR35 is the strongest.
