Okay theres method in my madness
Yet again my battery is flat as i havent used it - charging the battery is not a great issue - it just proves the point that i dont use the MV6. Its quite literally rotting away. I have done 4000miles in 18 months.
I use other vehicles and with my projects expanding and the wifes horse business expanding we really really " as a business venture" need something that will tow trailers and horse boxes.
Now i know an omega will do this all day.
But i need better economy too.
Now i know an omega td will do THIS all day....
Problem is i like the omega as a model and believe it should be looked after.
I dont want it filthy and smelly with horse stuff and tools, and dented and scratched hooking up things to tow everyother day and ploughing through fields with horses. I think i realy need a workhorse.
So unless any one can convince me otherwise, as i really need to also face up to my corrosion on my otherwise perfect MV6.....
I am in the market for a Landcruiser, Hilux Surf blah blah blah..... :(
-
Might as well be pragmatic - Omegas are not worth much, they sre pretty tough as well - you might as well use it as what will you get selling it?
-
the Omega may not cope so well on the grassy stuff though!
Toyota Hi-Lux's are very robust, and would probably be my choice. The Surf's are cheap at the moment, but seem to run forever, so it would be sensible i guess..
-
Well will get £2500 for mine and have accrused the same again from my wee projects. So technically its not going to cost me anything up to spending £5000.
Other factor is i am only doing a school run on the omega and using other vehicles to lump stuff about, so averaging about 18mpg.
I actually almost like the Hi Lux, and also the Landcruiser, and also the Warrior L200 :o
Being sensible and pragmatic here but at the end of the day i am not sure if i could part with my MV6. Just thinking about someone buying it and driving off round the corner in it, and me never possibly seeing it again, missing the v6 sound :'(
-
if its economy you are after then keep the mv6 any 4x4 will struggle to get out of the mid twentys with a horse box on the back. why not lpg the meega and shoot the horse?
-
i am down to about 18mpg with the mega before towing.........and i dont like lpg - just a personal pet hate,,,,although i am all for shooting the horse :o ;)

A diesel megga would be a good work horse and pull for england but as pointed out, won't be good on grass or mud tracks.
Also with winter comming up, roads will get very mucky and ice, even more if your going to horse type places!! ;D
Sounds like you do need a 4x4 work horse to pull the horses! ;) ;D - And tbh if you want something thats going to get abused and you don't car about the interior and dents ect... then i think your on the right tracks, maybe a Land Rover Defender? or a Disco?
I know they won't exactly make for fun driving.... god awful driving come to think of it. But damn good work horses

Number 6, unless you want to keep racing her to spend money. :P

What comes first, the Omega or the business?

I was looking for one of these infamous oil threads, but they seem to be imaginary. :-/

If the wifeys business is starting to take off buy 4x4 through the business and offset it as a business expense and keep the MV6. alternatively, divorce the wife and eat the horses ;)
-
Already said, but a Discovery is a really good work horse (no pun intended). I had one for 3 years and loved it, was a bit heavy around town but great on a run. Would fill your needs for towing and give better mpg (TDi) plus you could get a high spec one with leather etc for not much money.
Me, i'd keep the MV6 and get the wife a Disco :y

Good towing car - Omega 3.0 Elite Auto, with towbar and Electrics.
Economy = nice sequential LPG conversion with a nice new oil cooler.
Availability - Watch this space ;D
In all seriousness, if you want a 4 by 4, I like the Discovery. (Some will disagree).

I was going to add my two penneth worth - but seems I'm a year too late :-X
