does anyone know if the torque converter and flex plate from the TD omega was used in any other car? eg the 325 or 525 BMW or similar. i need to source one but am having trouble, and was wondering if another car is an option. cheers peeps

in the Omega TD auto, the AR25 box was used.
This is fitted in all 2.5V6 Omega's.....
Not sure whats in the 2.0 Omega.
So any parts sourced from a V6 Omega will be fine. The torque converter from the AR35 (Omega 3.0/3.2's) should also be fine....
Actually, sod it, just fit an AR35....

Is the diesel torque converter the same as the petrol one then?? i have an AR35 box with a 3.0 petrol torque converter will this go on the 2.5 TD engine???
it would be great if it did. ::)
cheers people

Yes it works. I think it needs reprogramming though.

update coming soon mate, we are getting there!! just need a t/c and flex plate!!!

the diesel torque converter has 3 bolts holding it to the flex plate, the petrol version has 6. they will both physically fit the gearbox but you cant make the petrol flexplate fit the diesel
-
i would also imagine they have different "stall"characteristics

Absolutely. It's the TC stall speed that defines the character of an auto box and it's matched to the torque curve of the engine, so likely to be radically different on a TD.
It'll take off like the proverbial off a shovel with a petrol TC stall speed, but road manners and economy would be appauling!

Cobblers ;)
TD Torque converter is unique to the TD in the Omega range.

Just to clarify some things in this thread....
The gearbox (ideally AR35, but AR25 OK) can come from any other Omega.
The TC and the bellhousing on the gearbox MUST come from a TD car.
On earlier gearbox ECUs (pre 98), I believe the ECU is unique to TD (but would need to confirm), but later ECUs are the same as petrols, but run a different 'map' which can be put on via Tech2.

Well explained :y
.....and to answer the original question, can the bits be nabbed off a 2.5 BMW diesel???
