Hi everyone I am new o this site and a new omega owner, I had a vectra before and now I wanted an omega, I have a few questions, I Have just got myself an omega, its registered on the logbook as 2.5 but im sure it has an mv6 engine can some one tell me the obvious differences please, Anyway i think i have a 3.0 v6 24v rear wheel drive manual, not sure if this is common? i have been reading on this forum about people having lsd how do I know if I already have one seeing as this has had an engine change.
Now lastly he engine seems quite sluggish up intill 4500 revs and then it really kicks off is this normall or is there somthimg I can check.
I would really appriecate your help.

Welcome to the forum, if it's a 2.5 it won't be an MV6 I'm afraid.
-
hello i also have a 3.0 mv6 and i bought a chip from ebay ( germany) and it has this effect at 4500 rpm so if you have a 3.0 engine fitted it may have the same chip fitted as for which engine you have i think it is no big difference to the untrained eye but i am sure some omega expert will be along soon to help you check which you have , HTH

There is no MV6 engine as such, the MV6 had lowered and stiffened sports suspension plus some other minor differences e.g. sports seats, but the engine is identical to a non-MV6 car (e.g. CD, CDX, Elite).
The engine may have been chipped but this is not directly related to it's being MV6 or not.
Also, many MV6 were in use by the police, so could have some other improvements such as potentially higher rev limiter etc by the police force in question, but again these are not standard fitments on MV6 cars.
And as said by AA above, the MV6 was never available with the 2.5L engine, initially only with the 3.0L and later also the 2.6L and 3.2L.

yes 2.6 and 3.2 post 2001. 3.0 only in your age range afraid..
as for sluggish.....whats its history and detail of completed work?

Only the MV6 and Elite had the 3.0l or 3.2l

Not easy to tell the 2.5 and 3.0 apart. If its post 1998, the 3.0l will have a longer plenum.
If you post up the MID codes (press and hold S and R together for 3s) I can tell you what that is programmed for, but obviously if the MID or engine has been changed, that could be wrong.

i think it is 1998 my speedo goes to 160
-
codes are
029 2
24555
cheers guys

Does the plenum come forward and droop over cambelt cover at the front, or is the plenum entirely flat on the top?

Thats set for a 2.5 manual transmission, 15" wheels, no goodies like HIDs.

the gagrage i got it from said the replaced the engine
-
Thanks for that TheBoy does those codes also represent front wheel drive or rear wheel because mine is a rear wheel drive and the garage i got it from said the replaced the engine gearbox clutch, here is a link for a pic of the engine I have my car, the pic is not actually my car but one with the same engine.

Also if my engine is a 3.0 and my codes still says its a 2.5 would that explain why it is sluggish because the ecu needs to be updated.?????
and where can i get that done.
-
The plenum chamber is a 2.5 model. All Omegas are rear wheel drive.
-
Oh and the sluggishness could be because the multi-rams aren't working properly. If you have a search for "multiram" or "multi ram" there should be a guide somewhere that tells you how to test it.
-
where can i find my engine identificiation number i.e x25xe on the omega 1998
-
All Omegas are RWD.
That picture is a 2.5 engine or a pre 1998 3.0l engine.
-
i am still confused because this could be an early 3.0 where is the engine number located so i can chech to see if its an x30xe or x25xe. its only because the garage said they changed but are not to sure either.

I would hope they are compitent enough to know what engine they fitted!
If yours is an auto, and they bolted on a 3.0l.... ....oh dear....
What makes you think it is a 3.0l then?
-
Dont know just for some reason i thought it was a 3.0 mine is a manual, I just wondered if there was the engine number stamped somewhere plus feels quite quick for a 2.5 my dads vectra 2.5 gsi was not as quick as this and mine has a drivers exhaust manifold blowing and is feeling sluggish.

Not aware of any database that allows looking up of engine number to find type. On the diesels, there is a sticker, very conveniently put right at back so only visible with engine out. Not aware of any such sticker on petrol models.
I have seen a sticker on the right side of camcover on some though :-/
