Title: Intermittent Beeping from under bonnet
Post by: richardirv on 01 October 2007, 07:16:12
Hi Chaps

I would like some oppinions of my problem, although difficult to describe, I have noticed an intermittent very quiet beeping sound coming from under the bonnet, I can hear it even before its unlocked/started on a morning and the beeping continues even when the engine is running (stops after a while though), some days it does it, and others it doesn't, it beeps then pauses then beeps again, it sounds to me like the same timing for the alarm (alarm light activity in car normal). to me it sounds like its coming from near/under the brake fluid reservoir. It is getting checked next week by a friend of mine who is a Vauxhall mechanic, and over the phone he said it was probably water in the alarm siren, I just wanted to see if anyone thought the same or had the same problem at any time!

Cheers

Richard

Sounds like its the powersounder low battery warning.
Can be disconnected and just left or removed, opened up and battery replaced.

You're looking at mega bucks for these - they're rechargeables and can't be replaced - Kevin Wood is you're expert on these - complete new power sounder required.

As Taxi Driver has said - much easier to just disconnect the power sounder - it's only needed to stop the scum who try to steal your car and try and disconnect the battery to disable the alarm.

Your choice though.

It is possible to replace the batteries, though involves cutting the unit open, and certain versions of the batteries are difficult to source.

Your car will still have an a;larm, as it uses the cars main horn. The power sounder is a battery back up siren only.

I found a source for the batteries only about £3.00 each [two required] trouble was min order quantity 100.
Could fine 50 people.

Well at least the alarm would still work! was thinking it would stop completely if power sounder was disconected. Hopefully my m8 will be able to replace the batt though, dont fancy attempting to take it apart myself.

I also have a missing drivers side ultrasonic sensor? probably gonna get that fixed at the same time but suprised the alarm doesn't error due to it being missing!  :-/

Wish i'd seen that when i bought it!! Would of knocked more dosh off!!!! hehe
