I replaced the wishbones on the car and now as a result I need the tracking sorted. So of I went to get it done when they put it up on the lift and had a look they point blank refused to do it. Reason being is that apparatly the tie rods looks seized and last one they done broke. So now I am faced with removing them to free them up. Problem is after removing the two end nuts it will not budge at all. Is there something I'm missing?

Can you not try some heat treatment on the adjusters, mine were locked solid & a bit of heat did the job nicely

thought it would be easier with them off the car, but maybe that isin't the case :-?

yes, you need to use a splitter ... personally I'd recommend one of these (http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?item=119&cat=492) :

alternatively, you can use the "fork type" splitter like this (http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?item=120&cat=492) :

but believe me when I say that the top one is MUCH easier for that job ...

When they have been on a while its easier to remove from the car and place in a vice, undo the pinch bolts and as stated apply heat (blowtorch) to the adjusters and then use a good pair of molegrips and gradually try to turn it rocking backwards and forwards.
Eventually they should free off, when you have freed them disassemble and greese up then re assemble and take for tracking.
Please measure up the rod before disassembly in order to get in a reasonable good place for driving to the garage.

I used the top one when I replaced both mine, £35 each from my friendly motor factor, easy as pie to do and lots of fun??? driving to get alignment done :o ;D

Far easier to do off the car you will need the clam type splitter do not use the wedge, more likely to split the rubber seals. 20mins
Plenty of wd40, a vice, a pair of 18" stilly's.
measure from the end of the clamp barrel to the centre of the track rod. (re-set to that measurement)
remove the bolt from the clamp, tap a chisel into the clamp to spread it slightly, place on the vice with the jaws slightly open. gently tap the barrel whilst turning, again plenty of wd40, you have a left & right hand thread.
Under no circumstances should you use any heat, you are dealing with probably the most important parts on the car in terms of safety, when you apply heat you alter the temper of the steel after which it is down to pure luck. People who have to apply heat have no understanding of what they are looking at. so unless you are fully aware of what you are doing heat is the last thing you should think of. The tracking both front and rear on the Omega are well engineered, and a pleasure to work on. 20mins
Reassemble reset tack rod ends to the measurements you took initially. back on car job done.
from memory 17 & 19mm socket and spanner. 20 mins
Not a lot more to reset your tracking and camber, but thats another subject.
Take you time and good luck allways plenty of peeps on here with advice so you are not alone. But anyone offering advice to apply heat just have a chuccle to yourself and move on.

Heat didn't really seem like the best idea to me either which is why I was taking them off to put in the vice, it's just any car I have worked on before the track rod ends just slide in and out of the retaining holes ie. no need for seperaters etc. was just checking incase there was a retaining clip or something daft I couldn't see , will get a splitter tomorrow so should be rocking then.
