Title: Wobbly rear view
Post by: V8S on 01 October 2007, 12:25:15
Another post, another problem....  ::)  :)

The rear view mirror in the car I'm possibly buying has a rear view mirror that is loose at the ball and socket. Any ideas how to tighten this up or new part needed?

Edited to add: it's a facelift Elite.

Cheers!

Graham

Don't know if it can be tightened but do a search on here for las_jacarandas as they break Omegas & may be able to help

Hi Razzo,

There is one (I think) on eBay. Las jacarandas seems only to deal with pre facelift models.

I have the same prob in my '96 car.  I was wondering about just trying to roughen the surface of the ball, thereby increasing the friction of ball in socket.  I'll have a go this evening and let you know how it goes... :)

Well, if these mirror attachments haven't changed, it's an easy fix.  Went in there with the intention of trying to roughen up the surface of the ball part, to find that the problem is (of course, with hindsight) that the socket part had split down one side.

Thought about trying to glue it, decided it wouldn't hold; thought about trying to melt the edges of the crack together with a soldering iron tip.  Decided I'd need to hold the crack shut with something while I did this, hit upon a small tyrap as the solution. Tried it back on the car with just the tyrap, and it's a winner!  No more floppiness for me!  ;) ;D
