Title: EML on 2002 plate, how to get rid?
Post by: The Cambelt Kid on 03 October 2007, 20:29:26
Hi,

I'm trying to diagnose the errors thrown up since installing LPG on my 2.6 and i understand that it may be running a little rich.  Anyhow MDTM kindly reset the error last saturday (did my cruise too, thanks!) and it was his T2 that diagnosed the problem.  No sooner i got back on the A52 the error came back up again, so at a guess i would think it the same error.

My question is - how can i get rid of the error so i can try and resolve the problem?  because if i make a change to the LPG ECU fuel map the EML light won't go out.  So on a 2.6 52 plate Omega, what options do i have?  I don't wan't to keep pestering MDTM, i'd much prefer to do it on my drive.  Does anyone know what interface my car has?  and can i buy a cheapo T2?

Cheers in advance

DBW, a generic OBD reader will do...

Thanks TB!

So any ODBII reader will do?  Would any of the more expensive ones be any better? I've seen them start from £30-£80 notes. I'm not 100% sure what code MDTM read for the rich mix, that's if it does have a code and wasn't a bespoke error which can only be read on a T2.

What comms protocol does my 2.6 have?  I think it might be ODBII, if that's the case i will splash out on one from fleabay.

I think yours is the same as mine, in which case the comms will be CanBus (Y26SE, Y32SE).

I think any model will diagnose basic stuff, and I haven't tried anything yet, but am waiting for the CanBus model from UKOBD.co.uk

Hi, I have a generic ODBII reader and it works fine with the Omega so well worth the investment.

Another alternative if you don't mind inputting the radio code is to disconnect the battery for a while. I think 10 minutes usually does it

Cheers

Its not CAN bus......its the ISO OBD2 protocol.

From eBay:"The new generation of automotive code readers that support Controller Area Network(CAN) protocol has arrived. The new model cas810 CAN OBD2 auto scanner supports all OBD2 protocols, including the newly released ControllerArea Network(CAN) protocol, allowing users to keep up with the latest development in automotive diagnostic scanning."

Does that mean that CAN is a subset of OBDII?

Omega is not CANBUS.  Some elements are CAN like, but it isn't a CAN system.

DBW Omegas are ISO and OBDII

OBDII describes the codes, the protocol (CAN/ISO etc ) describes the language.

In computer terms, the protocol is like the IP/IPX/NetBEUI etc, the codes is like the stuff you run over it (html/smtp/RPC etc)

The above is not quite true, esp with regard to CAN, but near enough in laymans terms for this discussion.

I use the Vauxhcheck software and ELM327 interface supplied by Gendan.

Their website is www.gendan.co.uk

Good luck!
