Traction Control.

Does what it says on the button.

If the wheels spin, management system cuts the revs etc and allows increased traction to get you moving.

If switched off (light lit on speedo) then TC is off and the car wheels spin, searching for grip as if sitting on an ice rink and the car can and does behave somewhat differently....     ;)

That depends how you want to drive the car personally mine is always on . I think it will change back to default on anyway if you turn the igntion off. So you are going to have to turn it off every time you start the car  :y

Happy days for your local tyre dealer anyway - gosh, I can remember when I was carefree enough to think like that.

On second thoughts have fun if you can afford it. There are precious few fun things left un-legislated.

on later ones it tries apply the brake to the spinning wheel, then it will cut the revs if that didn't cure the spin.

Kids in the car leave it on  :y not worth any risk whatsoever when carrying them  :y That should go without saying really :o

On one occasion for driving the car free from mud (winter time-car cant move)  become necessary to close the TC..

Sometimes it can be a little more serious than that.

I nearly lost a rental Peugot 307 Cabriolet off the edge of a cliff in Italy a few years ago because the ESP (Traction Control) kept cutting the power in very precarious situation - very steep gravel road with hairpin bends. I didn't realise it was fitted, the TC cut the power right on one of the last bends. Ttry as I might every time I tried to take off - wheelspin - so it just kept cutting the power, and the car kept rolling back towards the cliff edge. Every attempt bringing me closer to the edge.

In the end I called the local emergency services on my mobile phone (my cousin and some of his men :)), who came and rescued me. It was only once I had time to assess the situation, that I realised what that strangely labeled button on the dash did. :-[

My case was not that serious only I was close to hit an iron fence in an inclined place..Mixture of mud (mostly)+snow(weak)

Really TC sometimes do wrong things..

Hi, I don't think switching the TC off will make the car go faster, it will only make the wheels spin, which means you are going nowhere until they grip, which is exactly what the TC does.
