Well we have replaced the crankshaft sensor and the stalling we had on idle has stopped also cleaned up the MAF sensor which has removed the 74 fault code.
The crank shaft fault code 19 still remains without EML light and the car will not rev over 3500 and accerleration over this point is very juddery and noisy. Up till the 3500 mark seems to be ok and running quite smooth.
We have been adviced that the cam sensor maybe at fault as well??
Any thoughts greatly apprieciated

wrong sensor for your car???
-
well we thought that but no part number on sensor juct a bosch one
-
No ecu light on?
It wont be the cam sensor
It wont have been the MAF either, its a common code that is thrown when the crank sensor fails.
Exactly what codes remain?
-
19 remains
stalling which was inital problem now resolved
second hand crankshaft sensor fitted believe it could be off 2.5 omega but not sure
problem now will not rev over 3500 without become cough splutter fart!!!!! below 3500 fine
-
19 still means its not happy with crank sensor.
Due to routing, and brittleness of cable, 2nd hand ones are not much cop.
-
Need to replace the sensor and its cable as stated in order to illiminate this.
-
Yup....you clearly got a better crank sensor than the original you had but, its still not right....code 19 is a dead give away.

and i dared to doubt this info a few weeks ago and eventually gave in and bought a new one. Guess what, it solved my code 19.

Well bit the bullet and bought a new sensor fitting went without a hitch.
Car now runs better than before and is able to rev to full range, however car has stalled again twice today after motorway run of 45 miles once car had cooled problem solved.
EML light still off but paperclip test still says crankshaft sensor help please this is really doing my head in!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

what code, 19 or 31?

19

Code 19 is fatal - change that crank sensor ASAP....
-
Also, it will require so many "clean" starts, (or Tech2) to clear the code from the ECU memory..
-
Thanks for that Maria however if you read all the threads you will notice it has been changed twice once for 2nd hand once for new.
-
Ah, yes, just had a read..
If it's still limiting, the cam sensor could be a suspect, but I have never seen one fail on a V6 before...
Code 19 never lies.. I wonder if the new one is duff? you didn't route it near the exhaust did you, hence damaging the cable? ( I have to ask! )
What you really need to do, is clear the codes out with Tech2, and then see what returns.
If you are not getting an EML at all, and it's rev restricting, don't rule out a blocked exhaust/cat
shove a rubber glove over the tailpipe, see how fast it inflates it!
-
The ECU is not happy with the crank sensor.
The fitting of the sensor, was the orignal route followed, or the alternative route to ABS?

Alternative route for cable to avoid exhaust

Not limiting at all just this stalling at idle after engine is hot

So to clarify, the car is revving up to the redline now OK?
Usually, stalling like that, if not crank sensor, I would say check the ICV and EGR
But I'm not convinced, you have a code 19..
I think the next step, may be a continuity test between the crank sensor cable attatchment (on the loom) back to the ECU pins.
Check out the resistence, and any short to 0v..
You'll need a wiring diagram/TIS

Hang on a mo.
If you have no EML but when you read the fault codes you get a 19 it could possibly be the old fault code.
The 19 code must be stored when the ECU sees a transient fault but isn't cleared immediately otherwise you would'nt necessarily see it.
Not sure how long this code persists but some need 20+ full clean engine starts to 'fade away'.

That's detailed above...
Wouldn't explain the stalling though, which is a classic crank sensor symptom
Still suspect a wiring (or cable routing) fault...

Well done Maria, your now Intermediate, i just turned to. :y
-
The 19 disappears pretty instantly...
-
So to clarify, the car is revving up to the redline now OK?
Yes indeed it is revving to redline and driving well it has stalled once since change after a 45 mile run on motorway.
Fault code still reading 19

That 19 really isn't good. That should have disappeared by now.
