Title: Dipstick tube
Post by: CaptainZok on 07 October 2007, 13:07:22
Anyone know how the dipstick tube comes out of the V6?
Tube is loose and spins around but don't want to come out. Yes I'm trying to get to the "awkward" manifold stud.

From a computer parts piccy I have, looks like one bolt to the top then an O ring seal at the bottom where it plugs into the block.

It's a pig of an O ring then.
I've disconnected the bracket, the tube rotates but don't want to come.
Biggest prob is getting a grip on it to pull the thing out without crushing it with the mole grips.
Then I can start on those awkward/broken studs.

If it helps, the diesel ones just pull out once you've undone the top mounting bolt.  The O ring is sometimes tight.

Chances are, you will knacker o ring, so get a spare ;)

Had another go but the bugger won't give.  >:(
I'm wondering about wrapping a rope round it and persuading it with the engine crane.
yes its getting that desperate.

What if you put the dipstick in partway that might stop the tube being crushed if you grip it the correct way>

Might be a dipstick idea though??

Can you push a piece of well fitting  steel bar into the dipstick tube to stop it being crushed by the grips?

I just managed to get the stud out with nut stuck/rusted/siezed on it. Replacement was done by grinding a little bit off the new stud, it then just slips past nicely.

I actually found the pass side easier to do than the drivers side :o

I removed a manifold from a V6 at a breakers, the engine was on the ground and I couldn't pull the dipstick tube out - I wasn't gentle either. In the end I bent it to one side....

I though it was held in by an O-ring, but it's a stubborn b*gger.

I think the welding is taking it out of him.
